I have tried several times recently to re-skin some of the existing units in RTW, as I assumed this would be a simple process that might help get me into the world of Total War modding. I have tried simply altering the existing skins and saving them, however this has had absolutely no effect. I have also tried saving the new skin with a different file name and changing the file name in the relevant unit notepad document, however this again made no difference. How exactly is unit skinning supposed to be done? Cheers in advance.

When you have done your skinning, find your Rome; Total War folder, find models_unit, then create a folder called textures. Save the skins in here under a new filename.

Then, in the main data folder find descr_model_battle.txt, open it and find whichever model you have reskinned. Then, change the textures line to the name of the file you have created. Remember all textures must be in .tga.dds frmat to be used.

Hope this helps,

Jubal
