:beam: :beam: :beam: :beam: :beam: *Phew* just got back from the final. It was close, man it was close. The other team were fast (why is the other team always faster??) and they were leading most of the time. We managed to make several comebacks, and in the end we won it by 8 points, which is a substantial margin for our league! I got a double double (12 points, 12 rebounds) and made a flukey downtown duce in the last 30 seconds which lifted our team's spirits for sure.

Anyone else play/like/watch basketball? I love the game so much...

Thanks fo reading my little brag :shame:.

Congratulations!

All I know about basketball is that we used to play it in school and it took me ages to get better at it, but it was fun.:2thumbsup:

Very nice. A double-double comes in handy for most of the teams. ~:)
How many fouls and what FT %?

I had 3 personal fouls, and a 33% FT shooting (2 of 6), which is not too good, but about normal for me I'm not the best from the charity stripe.

We had to change our team tactics halfway through the game. We were playing the 1-3-1 (for all those who know it) which is also known as the "wheel" but we had too many turnovers so coach decided to change it to the good old 2-2-1, and thats when we started to pick it up.

Congratulations! I'm not very good at basketball - I used to play volleyball in the university... What's a double double?

It's where you get double figures in one statistic, and double figures in another (example: 10 points, 10 assists). Its not that difficult at my level; where you really start to prove yourself is triple doubles. I have never seen someone get a trip dub in our league. If you are familiar with the NBA, then Jason Kidd and Kevin Garnett are the current triple double leaders.

What position do you play? Center? Centers have low FT%.
As for the tactics, if you don't have guys like a potent PG, you could easily be beaten. Also, in a 1-3-1, a half court press might work, but an intelligent PG will break it.

What did you use? Zonal or Man Marking?

Uhuh... OK... It's trying to reach specific values in the stat AND winning while aiming at something different?

Too right. The 1-3-1 is countered quite happily by a good half court press. Thats probably why it wasn't working - we weren't pushing their defense enough.

Currently I play center, being 6"4', but I'm a small forward at heart. I even play point guard sometimes, because I'm good with the ball.

Our point guard is a good allroung player, his ball handling is great, but his passing, court vision and control leaves something to be desired.

Our defense is simple, but effective. We use the "helpside ballside" method, which is basically a legal combo of zone and man to man, if you're familiar with it.

Edyz, what position do you play? You play a lot of basketball? You seem to know what you are saying...

A good player will be good enough that he doesn't need to think about getting stats - he will naturally accumulate them.

For all those mildly interested, these are the various stats:

Points: acquired by sending the ball through the rim. Free throw=1 From more than 15 feet away=3 everywhere else=2
Rebounds: grabbing athe ball after someone has missed a shot, usually after the ball has bounced off the backboard or rim.
Assists: passing the balll to someone who socres without dribbling the ball.
Steals: Intercepting a pass, or strippping a player of the ball while he holds it.
Blocks: rejecting a shot attempt by the opposition by placing your hand in the path of the ball, preventing it from continuing its course.

the rebound is just about taking the ball after a shot? I was thinking of those guys jumping right behind the ball to slam it back in the basket if it bounces off... what do you mean "watch real basketball"? :sweatdrop:

on a related note, Congratulations Lorenzo.

On another note, Anyone here watch Nba and/or play the nba games regularly? I do both, watch nba on sky, and play nba 2k7 on 360 ( great reason just to get a 360)
