I heard the enviro-heads want to kill it. Very odd.
Cute bear. He's probably Canadian. :canada:

I think they're arguing that as he'll have to be raised by hand-since he's been rejected by his mother-he'll become dependant upon humans, and then once he gets big and dangerous enough that his handlers can't go near him anymore, he'll become very depressed.
I don't really know enough about polar bear behaviour to comment. He certainly is cute though.

Heheh, veeery cute.
As for putting him down, I don't think it's that clear-cut that no life is better than a depressed life.
I've been depressed for 1.5 years, and they haven't put me down yet, although I might have preferred it at certain points.
Awwww soooo cute!
:smitten:
I'd much rather put down a few enviro-nuts than let them murder such an adorable creature.
Just find the guy a friend to play with, any young same sized creature should do the first year. This animal can never be reintroduced to the wild, play a little and into the beercage with his polar pals once he has grown too big.
Or just give it to me, so cute I take the risk, it would never well

Its not so unusual for One Species of Animal to care for another's young. As far as Bears go, Polar Bears are known for their nastiness in comparison with other bears (more humans are killed every year by Polar Bears than any other breed), but the Casualty risk is still lower than People Killed by Bengal Tigers per year, and people seem pretty apt to keep those as pets. Plus, Polar Bears tend to be solitary animals to begin with, so I don't think it'll get depressed to easily.

Who do you know who keeps a Bengal Tiger as a pet?!

Big Cats seem to be a pretty popular, even though technically its illegal. I've met a few people through the Grapevine that had Big Cats, one had three Bengal Tigers, and a very rare Sumatran Tiger.
Mike Tyson has one I believe,
Those Gay German Guys in Vegas have some(though I think they are Albino Siberians), and I think one of them was almost mauled to death by one of them.
I've also met someone who had a Black Leopard, which scared the living bejeesus out of me, because the guy never gave me any warning, the thing just trotted out of the next room, and Sat by his side.
But all in all, I've only ever met Two People... who had Big Cats, I know one of them was working through the San Diego Zoo, but I don't think the other guy had any Legit Papers on his ownership. (Black Leopard Guy).
I prefer Dogs all in all...

Nice, but will rip in half anyone with a single blow in a few years. In a zoo, maybe... That's sad. To be so cute and so dangerous!!!

Never mind in a few years. It's a murderer now....
He may look cute and cuddly but Knut, the world’s most famous polar bear cub, stands accused of conspiracy to murder.

My guess is it was Professor Plum in the billiard room with teh lead pipe....:sweatdrop:
They are quoting "Bild", one of the most pathetic newspapers we have here.:sweatdrop:
I think the Panda suicided because Knut got all the attraction.
Or maybe the Panda heard that some wanted to put Knut down and that broke it's heart, literally.:idea2:
I think I'd rather take my chances with a tiger than a polar bear. Those things are huge. They'll take your head off with a swipe.
At least you can stare down tigers (or so the urban myth goes).

In India they wear masks at the back of the head because tigers sneak up on you from behind, and in that particular area they have learned that humans are an easy meal. Saw a picture of someone who gotten a slap from a tiger, his entire belly gone with a single swing, look at how strong a normal cat is, and then think tiger. But bears, how to get away, they are fast, smell you from miles away and can climb trees. Still, if I had a pointy stick I would go for the bear, and slay it NAVAYO style. Wait for it to rise, stick on ground, bite me!
