100.000
To all of you coming here, a big discrepancy must have made itself evident. While Eb can account for something like 163.000+ posts only 63K of those were of the public domain. The rest were not existent. What are they about? Where are they hidden?
This thread is to let you know...

Never mind the "300" Focus on the 100.000. The 100.000 post. It happened a few days ago.

Just to give you people a "inside" into our world, EBH, EB home. It is a place of wonder and work. Somewhere out of the boundaries of RL, a place where we military historians, artists, web monkeys, codderz, trait-ors, and even us voicemodders like. It is here that EB was and is still being created. The number 100.000 is the posts it took for us to get to where we are now. I honestly believe that a "beta" like EB is worth a lot more than other "fully develloped" mods, even games out there. If nothing else, playing it you will know why we love it. It took 100.000 posts on our internal forum, our work and your patience to see it through.
Of course, this isn't over. Far from it. More than 20 of us (me among them) have expressed our desire to continue work on EB with 6 planning to work more in the future. Now, I won't lie to you. There are members among us who are worth more than half the team. There are others who just manage to pull their own weight, and others who just hang about. It isn't a matter of one being more worthy than someone else, far from it, just a matter of time and RL commitments. Heck, one of our members who didn't vote on the above internal "gallop" was out in military drills with his unit.
There are still so many more things we want to do... So much more we see in Europa Barbarorum. Yet we do NOT forget our dues. We are thankful to CA for a magnificent game to mod, and are gearing up for transition on M2TW engine. Update 2 is shaping up to be a very nice thing. Our primary concern right now, is the "antitraits" which is broken. As Europa Barbarorum relies heavily on traits and scripts, not having them, will make translating into M2TW, very, very difficult.
To conclude, don't let the 100.000 post godzilla get you! It is a tame kind of godzilla, our godzilla. It is us! Here is a sample of the goodness that awaits you in a future version of EB. A goodness made possible because of those 100.000 posts. (Don't try to guess what kind of unit it is, it IS difficult, but you are more than welcome to try!)
You can always go check the https://www.europabarbarorum.com/factions.html site for references that will help you discern the following units. Click on the faction you want, then click on the "units" for some quick pictorial reference. Accurate too. All 350+ units of 0.81a EB are now in there. (-Edit: Just edited this to mention our web guy Krusader who went above and beyond for the site to be complete, and once you see it, you will understand the magnitude of the work involved).
I will give you one name... Stephan25... He is one of our most talented artists and if the pics below won't convince you about that, nothing will!

Keep up the good work. You have improved RTW greatly; with more factions, better AI, better recruitment system, and non-clone soldiers the MTW2 version of EB will no doubt be even more impressive.

It's mind-boggling to think that EB, for all it's bad-assery, is still a beta. The finished article, that will be a mighty thing indeed. One day, the sheer amount of work that's gone into this beautiful game might stop impressing me. But it shall not be this day!
And judging by the current rate of patches, by the time you guys have finished making EB, CA might have finished making M2 :sweatdrop:
Now that I have seen behind the curtain I am qualified to spread rumours.
Thread titles put into perspective
"EB v1.0 - Updates and Status": Meaning 1.0 is already finished, you're just testing our faith and making us wait.
"Who is still on board": The EB team is having a crisis and is falling apart.
"Quarterly fundraiser": The team is involved in drug trafficing and owe money to some Columbian cartel.
"Why is Wikipedia the devil?": The EB research department finally sacks Wikipedia as their historical source.
"300 sequal": The team is secretly a pro-300 group.
"Attention! To Pack or not to Pack?": Urnamma is firing everyone.
"My glorious return!": Zaknafien returns to Afghanistan for Rambo VI.
"Things all EB Team Members should know": 1. Never let anyone backstage.
Congratulations on the impressive mileage!
:cake: :birthday2:
What is amazing is that 10% of the post come from one individual! :2thumbsup:
How come you dont fundraise in the public forum? Im sure many people would be eager to give to such a worthy cause. You guys have done so much for us after all.

This is the kind of information that really makes me feel...humbled...I already knew I was "walking amongst giants" in terms of history knowledge, artistic aptitude and computer skills, but this speaks loud of the admirable dedication and constancy of the EB team.
Congrats guys, know that we really appreciate your effort and dedication.

100000 posts is just mindboggling ... :dizzy2: ... if anyone ever was in doubt that this is one of the greatest mod projects ever this will surely set them straight.
Just one thing though: "Discussion of new unit stat/cost system" .... aaaaargh!!!! :sweatdrop: ~;)

Why, didn't you know already? I remember that day Kull stated that EB 2 was done, yet the EB 1 guys kept it from being released... Now EB 1 is finished, we'll just lean back have some fun with it, and be as evil as not to share.

Well, you see, when you see "Discussion of new unit stat/cost system" you should read "Discussion of the now old unit stat/cost system". The thread started in early 2005 but has grown somewhat far from it's initial topic: now we use it to discuss bugs in the stats or the numbers for new units. You won't have to rewrite all your cards in the near future.

As a shot in the dark, I'd say it's a high level Getai spearman unit. But it was implied that the unit's appearance is misleading... hmm. :book:

Perhaps a helpful hint. Each version is for a faction. So as you can see this unit covered many people and many places.

Some sort of Hellenic (judging by the Spear, Javelin, Helm, thureos and beard) heavy infantry, might be one of the new Hellenic Reforms units I've heard of... I can definitely see its definitely hellenic.. might throw its jav then fight as a sort of heavy infantryman?
are they the new Thureophoroi (Hellenic Spearmen). I have sine the pictures of all the faction

You should at least say which factions are those. I think I see Baktria or even Celtic factions.
I will try with Illyrian Skirmisher, but could be a Ligurian too.

Well maybe you guys could do another preview soon. And next time I won't dabble in black magic to gain my insight. But overall this is a great mod you've created, I am really enjoying my current Carthage campaign. Hats off to the entire EB team.

it's interesting that some of the image names are casse, averni, and aduei. i have no clue how any hellenic influence would get that far. hmmmm

Those units are probably recruitable in hellenic provinces if conquered by Casse, Arvernii or Aedui, so it's more of celtic influence spreading to Hellas. Don't take this as a fact for I have a slight tendency of being stupid.

I would say they'll be recruitable somewhere in asia minor for the seleucs, ptolies and pontos, other helens: around ancyra:yes:
and for Case, Arveni and Aedui in helenic towns on the medetirian cost - like massila:idea2:

There were celtic mercenaries on every Hellenistic power that was. They influenced heavily the Hellenistic states of the era. The old round "hoplon" full bronze shield was gradually phased out, in favor of the celtic thureos. They were influenced in return. Those living near Hellenic cities/states or those who had fought with Hellenic armies would arm themselves thus, and fight in that manner. Greeks had a great deal of respect for the Celts... Probably after the fate of Ptolemaios Keraunos, who fought them...
Historical reference would be Massilians and Galatians, who had 'Hellenized' or 'Celticized' warriors, who adopted various bits and pieces of the other culture's society. Very interesting mixture of things, at that, and we thought it'd be a nice touch for Celts invading Greece, or Hellenes in Celtic territories, to also perhaps get similar units, representing the integration of some locals who willingly embrace some aspects of the foreign culture.

Free... beer? A tempting offer. But due to the extremely high quality of the new units you haven't seen we can't settle for any beer. A barrel of Leffe Blonde might do it; that's the least we can settle for.
I am shocked to see celts abandon trousers.

I say we invest in a keg-equivalent of Sami or something similarly potent. That way we get even awesome-er units than the ones we haven't seen yet.~

Just looking at the units I'd say Central Italian local spearmen recruited by various factions.

Bah, skirts. Real men used to wear a knee-length tunic with no trousers (tights and trousers were for poor people), and a cloak with a number of colors directly related to how bad ass he was (well, it was actually social station, but for Gaels social station was in part inspired by the bad assery of you or your forebears). Simple form and function. And a belt, and some loops on the belt to hang scalps. Good old scalping and head hunting. The kilt was invented because a bunch of Hebridean ninnies got cold, kept making their awesome cloak bigger, until it got in the way when they fought, so they had to start wrapping it around their body and belting it on.
Hmm... I have never thought that Scots are the civilized ones...

But then, who wouldn't be afraid of those mad, mad Gaels?!
