Dear Gang:

Good afternoon from Canada!!! I hope this finds you and yours well. As for me, I can't complain...yadda, yadda, yadda.

I have decided to stop freezing my assets in Northern Europe and decided to take a stab at being Egyptian for a bit. I have one question to my fellow Egyptians out there: How does a rookie Sultan, like me, keep the people in Jerusalem happy, short of moving out?

I've already lost a family member due to rioting. I don't need to lose more.

Secondly, what are the best factions with whom Egypt can do business? I've been told to steer clear of the Moors and Turks.

The floor's open to any suggestions, vague notions and ideas!

I'm off to the game!!!

Live long and prosper, take care and thank you kindly!!!

Sincerely yours always,

Indy.

Just exterminate and then keep plenty of priests around to convert the population. For Egypt, your bound to go to war with the Turks and Byzantines later so catholic factions like venice might help, but eventually a crusade will be called on one of your cities causing you to go to war with much of the world

Long term you can't do business with anyone. You're Muslim, and the other two Muslim factions are neighbors, which means they will end up hating you. Early you can make friends with the Moors, but don't expect it to last. If Sicily gets between you it can last a while. The Turks must die.

Early I ally with everyone that I can, though. Let's my pick my target (or let's them pick themself as my target). The Pope is a good ally until he calls a crusade on you. One thing that you can do is not take Jerusalem until after that first crusade. I've played a game (using Carl's ProblemFixer 1.2, where that garrison is HUGE too) where I just bypassed it to ensure I kept Turkey as north as possible. The first crusade came and failed, so I postponed making enemies of all Catholics by attacking a crusade.

Russia is a potential long-term ally, as it shares no borders for a while (usually) and is Orthodox, not Catholic. But it's rarely a useful ally.

As to Jerusalem, convert it before you take it. Part of the problem is religious unrest. Other than that, exterminate or at least sack to chop the population back to more manageable size. If you haven't converted it, it's not a big hit against your rep as they are infidel scum. If you have converted it, it might be hit your rep a bit.

I've played Egypt a bit, and in my experience the best way to control Jerusalem is to make it your capital (and of course covert the populace to Islam). If you end up conquering the rest of the holy lands, Jerusalem is a better capital than Alexandria anyway, because of its central location.

Dear All:

Good afternoon from Canada!!! I hope this finds you and yours well. As for me, I could complain...yadda, yadda, yadda.

Convert them? How do I convert them as Egypt? I found their version of a church, so do I keep building those? Can I train more Imams? I saw their version of a church, so, do I keep building more of those?

Live long and prosper, take care and thank you kindly!!!!

Sincerely yours always,

Indy.

You do the same thing but with imams and mosques instead of priests and churches

Just move in about 10 Imams for a while. If they are good ones (5 and up piety), five turns will see a majority convert. Then invade.

Two quick questions here: How do I make Jerusalem my capitol?

Open its settlement panel and look at the bottom of the settlement details screen on the left.

How do I check the piety level of my Imams?

Same way you do for priests. Select them, right-click on them in the unit panel to open their details screen.
