I've been following the Favorite Faction thread, was wondering...
What's your favorite unit? Style as well as stats...
For me, I'd have to say Highlander Nobles.
Cool 2 hander swords, kilts, and some interesting mail for their upgrades...
Plus they're a great offensive unit...
Who else has one?

Ottoman Infantry. No question. I usually had 50-75% of my armies in MTW with them. In M2, I use 12-16 of them in my armies, but only until I can get Janissaries..
They don't have their axes any more, but they are still tough as nails. And they've also got bows!

Any faction's general and bodygaurd. Think about it, heavy cavalry with 2 hitpoints, constant morale bonus making them near unroutable until general is killed, and they respawn every turn allowing to not retrain them ever

I like all them, even the peasants. It's just too much fun when your attacking a city with 2000 peasants.
But if I have to pick a favorite, I'd say the siege weapons. Throwing Dead Cows with the Trebuchet, or dropping large cannon balls on huge armies to watch them fly, or firing many fast rockets on a charging army, or shooting flame arrows with the ballista from a 90° angle!
I would say...Tercio Pikemen, they kill everything.

Leaving aside general's bodyguard, gotta be polish noble cavalry. Missile cav that will generally beat any other light cav in the game in hand-to-hand...what's not to like?

For me the best unit has got to be Jinettes, they are fast, have good attack and defence stats and are javelin armed.Brilliant for taking out enemy generals and heavy cav. And best of all they don't cost too much for cavalry and you can get them in both cities and castles:beam:

Jinetes are my favorite too. Availible from start to finish, they will never fail you.

Retinue longbows and elephant artillery are two of the few units that you can have a stack of 20 of and be able to defeat most any other army composition.
Besides, the elephant artillery looks cool :)
vards
Pound for pound they have to be one of the best units in the game.
Exceptional horse archers and damn fine melee cavalry too

Ottoman Infantry because they are ranged and melee.
But without Doubt...Dismounted Gothic Knights.
Lots of armour, and big swords. Whats not to like?

Getting skewered by armor piercing javelins who can outrun them. Portuguese Jinettes are it baby!
Hungarian Nobles: While it might not be the best unit in the game its my favorite, mainly because I have been playing as hungary mostly and these guys with some armor and some expirence pack a nice punch of ranged fire, speed from horeses, and decent melee.

Scots Guard- a longbow, a longsword, plate armour, great morale, and you only need a Huge Stone Wall to build them. Fantastic.

I have to say longbows. Yep, just any type of unit with longbows. I also like Venetian Heavy Infantry. Those hammers look cool smashing heads.

exept generals of course:
dvor dismounted or mounted :smash:
I admit it, I'm an archer addict. I love stakes, but I find long-range archer units that can melee as well to be a bit more versatile. Venetian Archers and Scots Guard would be my choice. They can defend cities and castles all by themselves, without infantry of any kind. They shoot everything that comes near them and they'll slaughter anything coming up a ladder at them and everything but the heaviest of heavy infantry coming out of siege towers.
Put them on hold on a battlefield and let the enemy infantry engage them. They'll be so depleted from marching up under long-range arrow fire that they'll break and run after a short combat with your armored archers. Then the archers get to shoot them in the butt as they run away!

Naffatun are really fun to use and are quite unique compared to the rest of the unit roster.

Personally, it's a tie between my scots noble pikemen, and my highland nobles. I use them in conjunction so much its not even funny. I love being of scottish descent.:laugh4:
Gothic Knights of the mounted and unmounted variety.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, I am really getting to love Horse Archers.
Jinettes are amazing as well.
But if I had to choose one...
Dismounted Gothic Knights. There is something very noble and knightly about they way they look head to foot in armour with greatswords. And they're killing machines in melee.

As I am currently on a massive Milan kick...Genoese Crossbowmen.
Other runners up:
As HRE: Any type of armored knight
As Denmark: Viking raiders
My favourite units are:
Retinue Longbowmen
Dvor(mounted and dismounted)

Amulgahvars - because i think they are good on walls, and because they can stay behind ur heavy infantry/spear troops and lob javelins into the enemy, and because they can fight well too.
I just find it fun to use them when i can
Thats a tough one to answer. I do know which unit I probably use/buy more often than anything else. Catapult. That sounds funny I know but I use them more often than anything else. Soon as I get them I use them in every army until Culverins come into play and alot of times I use them even after cannons are availble.
I recently played a Papal campaign and I really like the Swiss Guard units. On the archery side of it I'd say Pavise Crossbow men. Cavalry? Hmmmm... Thats a toughie. Not sure which I prefer. I need to think about that.
