View Full Version : Resources for enhancing the battlefield visually

Of course wether these recources really enhance the battlefield is a matter of opinion, but I think so

I have stopped modding for a couple of months and I thought that I might just as well upload some of my creations so that others can use them for their own mods. I was mostly occupied with changing the battlefield visuals for the Napoleonic 2: Total War mod. So if you wish to see how it looks when all put together then download that mod.

In the uploaded file you will find:
Sky textures. I do not know how they look at night. Since weather doesn't really affect battle mechanics and I couldn't get it to look well I removed it. Look into the descr_daytypes.txt file to see how you can make sure that you only get the new textures to show. You will also find the skybox creator and tutorial images as described in this tutorial: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=66881
Lighting settings: I thought that R:TW was too bright. With these new settings that isn't the case anymore.
Ground textures: included are DDS files and the PhotoShop originals with multiple layers. Note that you must use an hex editor to make the game use textures with new names. Alternatively you can overwrite existing ground textures.
Roads: I made new, smaller, road models to accompany the new ground textures.
Vegetation: New trees and bushes and all the files necessary to (re)create them. Included are several types of trees including oaklike, pine and leafless. Follow this tutorial (images are included) to learn how to create your own vegetation: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=60901

I hope that this is of any use. And since this is my last contribution to the modding community I thought I could use it to showcase my work (NTW2 unit models are not mine but they make the background look even better  ) and say goodbye to a wonderfull hobby :tongue2:

p.s. If this is posted in the wrong forum then please move it. I do not know wether this counts as a mod or tool.

Goodbye Duke John - and thank you for all your contributions and work! It is a great hobby (if a very time-consuming one) and I will not be happy to say goodbye to it either, when the time comes...

All the best for your future projects too - whatever they may be.

You'll be missed.

I'll be controvertial by saying:

Hello DJ

It's been a pleasure working with you as a moderator, in a limited way modding for the Lordz (as in, my contribution was comparatively limited ), and in a very enjoyable way discussing game programming

You're legacy is quite something, and won't be forgotten. ME TW for MTW was one of the things that inspired me to mod in the first place.

TBH I've stopped modding for a while now too, I've been hanging around because it's not so easy to leave when you're on the Staff (I blame you), and because it's fun to see other people's projects flourish I suppose.

Keep in touch.

PS, what happened to your pet skeleton in the end?

EDIT: tut tut, moved to the mod discussion. I'll split it later and move your resources back to the scriptorium, or forge.

My pet skeleton came and went with the job of moderating. Tosa violently took it away once I stepped down, I suspect his dog took it and buried it in a dozen different places. We'll keep in touch as I remain hanging around just like you.

How is the game programming going?
