Given the other topic about Britons being detained by another nation , and in the realpolitic world being held so the people holding them can get something in return .
How about a new scenario for the moral equivalence and my country right or wrong crowd ?
Say for example there is this British citizen being held by a foriegn government , the foriegn government says he is a nasty fellow who violated their laws by having 29 bottles of hair colouring and must be detained by them . They are however wiling to give him back to Britain if Britain in return hands over 9 people the other government wants in relation to an ongoing dispute over oil revenue .

Should Britain just do a deal ?
Should Britain threaten the other country and not do a deal regardless of the situation or the facts ?
Should Britain establish the facts relating to the British citizen and their detention and also establish the facts about those the other nation wants in return ? (and then do a deal based on the established facts)

I would expect lots of people to choose the first or third options .
Though if they were being consistant with their views expressed in the other topic then it would have to be the second option wouldn't it .~;)

If he broke local laws, then he does the usual time.

Of course the country might consider the political and economic ramifications, particularly if British tourism falls off drastically...

Secret talks to get airline bomb suspect back to UK

Pakistan seeks swap deal to extradite dissidents living in Britain

Britain is engaged in secret negotiations with Pakistan to swap a terrorist suspect who is wanted for questioning over the alleged plot to blow up transatlantic airlines last summer, the Guardian has learned.
In increasingly tense discussions, the British government is demanding the return of Rashid Rauf, a 26-year-old who is held in a high security prison in Pakistan. But ministers in Pakistan have responded by asking for something in return. In a proposed swap, they are calling for the extradition of up to eight people living in the UK who they claim are involved in an uprising in the western oil-rich province of Baluchistan

Oh you mean its not so simple as then :laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4: But he is a British citizen being detined he has been abducted by a crazy dictatorship , a crazy dictatorship is worse than democratic Britainso lets threaten Pakistan .:laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4:
Its funny how there is a big absence of people stepping up in support of him isn't it . You would have thought that with the bountiful expressions of simplistic views in the other topic they would be lining up for option 2 in droves.

Yeah, its really odd how people aren't supporting the British terrorist suspect who allegedly wanted to blow airliners out of the sky in the same way that they are supporting 15 British servicemen detained whilst doing their jobs.

Almost as if people think that somehow the alleged terrorist and the servicemen are not somehow morally equivalent, despite both being British. Crazy, eh?

Ah but to make that destinction people would have to look at facts concerning the episode  and that was the thing that was patently lacking in the other topic wasn't it .
