View Full Version : Half my family is insane

Just recently noticed that my star general, a successful crusader, with a great list of stats and traits had started losing command stars. I scrolled down his triat list to find he'd become utterly deranged. Looking through my family tree it seems that in fact most of family have picked up "the Mad" after their name, and since then every time I think I'm building up a decent general I find that he becomes a loon.
One theory I had about why this was so was the culture of assasination in this campaign. Another surprise looking through the family tree was how many had been killed this way, all without me noticing. The hungarians and the Empire in particular have a lot of agents around my cities. I'm wondering if the traits "paranoid" and "morbidly mortal" result from failed assassination attempts and can progress to all out madness. Although there wouldn't be much I could do about it at this point, except press on and finish off Hungary and the HRE, but that's not really an option as I'm also at war with almost everyone else. (This always seems to happen a playing as Venice.)
I also really hope that madness inot hereditary in this game. Otherwise I'm really doomed, and I'll have to have a cull by putting half my family in a little boat and sending that out to meet the Hungarian navy.

Yes it comes from surviving assassination as it is linked to paranoid.
It is also self perpetuating, so once you have it, it will become worse.
But it is not heritable.

I think there should also be a chance that if he survives an assasination attempt, a character might get a good trait to. Something like "Feels Safe in Position".

his sincere despair was what made it so funny
but anyway, whenever i get loons i send them on a long boat ride to nowhere...cuz it never seems to get better after it starts :elephant:

He can also get Assassincatcher.
Insanity and deranged doesn't start until he's got three levels of paranoia, btw.
This is the triggers:
;------------------------------------------
Trigger agents9
WhenToTest SufferAssassinationAttempt
Affects Paranoia 1 Chance 33
Affects HighPersonalSecurity 1 Chance 75
Affects Gambling 1 Chance 15
Affects Girls 1 Chance 20
Affects Drink 1 Chance 20
;------------------------------------------
Trigger agents10
WhenToTest SufferAssassinationAttempt
Condition Trait Paranoia >= 3
Affects Insane 1 Chance 30
Affects Deranged 1 Chance 10
;------------------------------------------
Trigger agents11
WhenToTest SufferAssassinationAttempt
Affects Xenophobia 1 Chance 8
Affects Introvert 1 Chance 25
;------------------------------------------
Trigger assassination_target
WhenToTest ExecutesAnAssassinOnAMission
Affects AssassinCatcher 1 Chance 100
Traits you'll want here, are Xenophobia, AssassinCatcher and HighPersonalSecurity. The first two levels of Paranoia are also good, however the third level is horrible... A little drinking and adultery is also a good thing.
It's true that Deranged isn't heritable, but paranoia is.

If your family is too bothersome, take all of your awful generals, find the nearest large enemy stack. In battle, walk up to your army but not to charging range and then make your generals face their backs to the enemy. Wait until your guys rout and if some survive, just repeat the procedure until noone is left. You will quickly get replacements that are hopefully better since your general count will suddenly get lower

My faction heir is utterly insane and running round Spain atm wearing nothing but a small loincloth , a fez and an onion ring over each nipple. Actually... I'm guessing about his dress sense, but it makes for great pre-war speeches and hasn't affected his command enough that he has lost a single battle yet.
Hurrah for the window lickers , sorry... mentally challenged. :balloon2:
@the OP. Only half your family is insane? You ought to meet mine in RL, inbreeding is a terrible thing. I like to play Dueling Banjos sat in my front yard... "Yeeeehah!!"

mad / insane or any other negative traits. just don't let them be incharge of anything (armies or governors) they are now expendable, cheap kick ass cavalry units. hopeless family members are still great units and often survive close battles and regenerate their numbers. no great loss when they die either. half or more of my generals are always on my expendable list anyway. morew come along soon and i would rather spend daughters than florins on recruitment.
So is mine.....literally.

Throw insane members of family into battle. They'll come out either dead, or packing enough postive traits to more than overcome their insanity. Same goes for any bad members of family.
I've had an insane faction leader who was a great general. He held away hordes of enemies against the odds. Besides... what is insanity? It just adds a touch of character right? :dizzy2:

Some of the more awful traits also leads to some pretty funny too, all the more reason to keep them fighting everything
