View Full Version : Ah Cruel Gods I'm stuck with Vanilla for awhile....
Well it happened, my computers hard-drive just died so I have to order a new one (sticking in an ATI X1950 pro while i'm at it ~;) ) And eb is gone also, the only other computer I'm alloud to put games on is also the one that doesn't get the net; so till I get my stuff and get re-situated (including the 3 gig download of WoW) I'l be forced to play Vanilla RTW... AHHHGGG THE HORRORRR! :wall:

Not "AHHHG!! The horror!" but "AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! The comedy!"
After playing EB how can one not laugh at the units and setup of vanilla? :clown:

That sucks. How will you cope with all those girls knocking on your door, attracted by that wonderful background script, and no EB to turn them down for?

The horror's in the fact that the Egyptians are "mummy-returns" versions, that Gaul, Germany, Spain are united. That Rome was seperated in three different families. That units rout almost as soon as they are hit... All those things EB corrected are horrible in Vanilla, at least after having tasted EB.
Rilder, I feel for you. But, I'm sure that you'll be able to come out of this ... tragedy strengthened.
The same kind of thing happened to me last week.
I don't feel like you do about EB though, my CPU could not run it from the start...
Well, may you have many entertaining new campaigns.

Ahhg were Out thow government system, its weird to conquer a province and immediatly be able to recruit my entire unit selection, I hate it... I played like 15 mins before going to see what other games theres on that computer... RTW without EB is not RTW :laugh4:. It's gonna be a long week or 2 till I get the stuff from Newegg to repair my computer...

You did well with 15 minutes, that's 15 more than I could of done.
It's not that vanilla is so aweful, if you don't know any better, it's just that after playing the latest EB, it becomes unplayable, IMO.
Do you have BI?
I think you'll find that less painful. Still painful, but less so.

yea, I have it, but the BI cd is 1.4 and the Vanilla CD is 1.5, It can install but, I mean that is going back a patch :P(plus that memory leak would be there I think) :sweatdrop:

Vanilla is a huge culture shock after EB. I played some custom battles on Vanilla a few days ago, mostly to check Vanilla wasn't screwed up by EB. First time I've played it since downloading EB or M2 - AHHHHHH! Insane movment rates, Greek hoplites with phallanx formation (they're different things, gawd-dammit!), incredibly fast kill rates, instant routing. It was like everything had suddenly gone horribly, horribly wrong.
Has anyone here played M2 and experienced the 2 handed bug? The way your billmen melt away like cavalry like ice in the summer sun? That's what all RTW combat feels like after EB. I expect M2 itself would be far more in line with my new expectations, except that too has been supplanted in my affections by this mod. And this was just the custom battles, so I didn't get the horrors of "Mummy returns" Egypt, unified barbarians and factional Romans (how perverse) and British head-hurlers (sickeningly perverse).

British head hurlers are a great unit...
And if theres an install of EB but no RTW, I can still get RTW, run install for EB and play?
Very technical

Yes, they are very powerful. In one custom battle, I saw 10 head-hurlers cut down a half-unit of Spartans (they stopped to reform after taking losses, so the hurler's rate of fire paralysed them) it's just that enemy heads were prized by the ancient Britons. Unless I'm mistaken, they'd never ever use them for such a lowly purpose as ammo. 2000BC Egyptians may be wrong, but at least you can understand the logic of them, of living up to people's expectations instead of historical accuracy. But hurlers are not only perverse with regards to accuracy, there's absolutely no reason to have them in place of a standard slinger.
EDIT: and I'm not sure what you're asking about installs, but I think the answer is no. To have both EB and Vanilla, you must copy your vanilla R:TW folder and install EB on that.

It's true that you can understand the logic of them. Except, if you know about Megas Alexandros, then you know he conquered Egypt, and you'd be able to guess that Egypt, as portrayed by RTW, is somehow...wrong.

My question was a side question, I have EB but no RTW. So if I install RTW, will I be able to run EB when I intall it on the new RTW?
I hope I dont have to uninstall EB (since its not directed to RTW) and install EB again.

I think you'd have to install RTW in a seperate folder, then move the EB file to the RTW folder.

Last time (.72) it all went in the same folder.
I tried to find an old copy of activision RTW so my chances of success would be high, but with the newer versions it seems EB is not built for (sega).

Firstly, let me see if I've got KC's intentions right. He over-wrote his sole Rome folder and now can't run Vanilla Rome. So he's trying to re-install Rome, but retain EB without re-installing it by copying it to a new folder. Right so far?
Actually, I tried to pull a move similar to that, but I hit a snag. I couldn't find a EB exe. anywhere in the actual folder, only the one on the desktop from when I ran the EB installer - which, since it was targeted to a former EB folder I'd over-written with Vanilla, ran Vanilla Rome. If you try and run the RTW exe. in an EB folder, you get a screwed up Vanilla. Horus, so Cossack avoids this problem, could you explain how to re-direct the EB exe to a new folder, or tell me how to find a EB exe inside the actual folder

Like this if it clarifies
1. I had RTW
2. installed EB on crappy SEGA RTW
3. couldnt play
4. uninstalled RTW
5. retained EB (and newly installed 0.81)
6. certain mess up with install, now comp think i have RTW but really only parts of the 1st cd
7. still have EB
8. hope to get new cd and install existing EB on that RTW
Bloody f$&King emachines (manufacturer of my computer when I originally bought it) I'm getting all hipped up for tomorrow (when my parts come) and I'm sorting through stuff to make sure I'm ready and then I go into my Goody bag of stuff, and the stupid morons from emachines had not put in a windows CD set, they had that green booklet about Windows Xp but not the cds for it... basicly meaning... I have to spend another f%&king hundred bucks on a new windows cd set... :furious3: :furious3: :furious3:.
I'mma be bloody poor for awhile... So much for wanting to buy oblivion....
EDIT: I can buy a restore cd for it for 20 bucks but that will delay my gaming by a week so.... 100 dollars or a another week of waiting.... Screw it EB is worth 80 bucks... Now to see if I can read the rest of Edith Hamilton's: Mythology before all the stuff comes....

I had a similar situation a bit ago where I had EB but not RTW.
Windows XP fucked me in the ass (pardon me), and I had to do a system restore, wiping everything and putting my 3-month-old laptop back to day 1. After that was done and over with, I didn't have RTW or BI, but the computer had a directory to it and such. When I tried to uninstall it, it said it couldn't find it. When I tried to run it, it said I had to install it. So I clicked the EB.exe and low and behold, EB worked perfectly. I could play EB just fine, even though there was no RTW or BI files (other than EB) in their respective directories.

you mean a PC restore. System restore preserves all your files. PC restore wipes everything to day 1.

Ah. Either way, I didn't have anything besides EB, which is strange. Everything on my HD except that was just gone...a sign? XD
