No, not Advanced Warfighter, which barely runs at min specs on my AMD64-3000/2GB RAM/7800GS, but the original series with the Desert Siege and Island Thunder expansion packs. (Which never drops below it's max of 75 FPS on my machine.)

I'm setting my buddy up with an old machine in exchange for some work he did, a PIII 1Ghz/512/ATI7200. While digging out my old unused flightsims for him to fly, I came acros my Ghost Recon CDs and loaded them up for old time's sake. It's still good fun, and very hard at times. I was going to give him the GR disks, but he'll have to wait now.

Best off, I found some mods online that really bring the game up a level. The CentCom mod is very good. So is No Easy Day. Both are fairly new I think, about a year old. Just curious if anyone else is still fooling around with the original GR series and if they have tried some of these mods.

I've got the old GR game with the expansions and I agree, it's bloody good.

I was thinking of loading GR up again two days ago, but plumped for Vietcong for a shooter fix. GR is very unforgiving - it's all about seeing the enemy first and not fluffing that first shot. It means that when you know the map, you are relying on foreknowledge of the enemy's positions. Vietcong allows you to take a few hits and still keep coming, which allows for a more immersive experience (as you don't have to keep saving and reloading). Plus you get to see your gun.

GR did have some very nice missions though. I hated the timed ones, but the more free-form ones were engrossing. And the SP campaign is long and varied, with nice RPG elements in terms of upgrading your people's skills and guns.

I'm trying Stalker right now and in some ways it feels like a Morrowind/Ghost Recon hybrid.

Go to ghostrecon.net and try the CentCom mod. It's 300 megs but well worth the DL. Good Afghan maps. You have to register but there's no email verification sent so you can sign in as you wish.

Might make it worthwhile for you to give it another shot. (Pardon the pun.)

Make sure you have the 1.4 patch installed. Most big mods require it.

I like the team control and the ability to switch back and forth between characters. The other GR games don't let you do this. Still a lot of good play left in GR I think.

I never much liked Ghost Recon. It was still Rainbow Six in an open environment. Don't get me wrong, I loved Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear, but having the enemy automatically kill you in one shot at 500 meters is not all that much fun.
