Ukraine has nominated transvestite comedian Verka Serdyuchka for this year Eurovision Song Contest. Here he/she/it is:

Verka Serdyuchka, who pokes fun at middle-aged women,
is loved by many people and is a cult icon in Ukraine. She
was chosen as Ukraine's entry by an overwhelming majority
in a public vote, but some find her vulgar and offensive.

Let's not belabour the obvious, for nothing is obvious in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Instead, Adrian II asks:

Who would you nominate on behalf of your country?

Belgium should send one of its' finest politicians:

Michel Daerden! (http://www.frizzante.be/daerden/)

I would recommend that some of you listen to this person's music. It's pretty uplifting. The picture should be all the warning you need.

For my nomination, in the spirit of Eurovision, I would go with

Katya Lel'!

It seems like quite a step down for the Ukraine compared to last year's entry. Yes i mean the easy-on-the-eyes Tina Karol.

Singing her "great" (Im using the term somewhat losely) success "Querido eu quero uma mala" (the song title is a pun..it´s supposed to sound like "honey I want to suck it).....a song whose lyrics is full of retarded sexual puns that can´t sound good to anyone with more than 2 brain cells....I´m predicting it will be a success with the Eurovision Crowd

Heh, that describes 90% of the songs that were in our 'primaries' last year.

I remember one UK candidate that unfortunately didn't get selected - perhaps it was barred somewhere along the line. Perhaps we could submit "Yodelling in the Valley of Love" again?

Nobody has mentioned our entry (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2kNoAddyUMQ) yet? They even announced the wrong entry
had won. So instead of having a French lass who can actually sing, we now
have quite possibly the campest entry going. Air stewards, anyone? Or to
quote the song, "Would you like something to suck on landing, sir?"

*wince*

They had a representative from each European country in the audience to
participate in a separate vote designed to show us which entry might actually
appeal to the continental viewer. Naturally, we never listened.

So, supporting :slovenia: all the way. Never make it past the preliminary
contest, and rightly so!

Ah, I see it looks like we're taking a leaf out of Portugal's Eurovision book.
Glad to see someone else is going to go down with us.

Shall I kill you now Geoffrey or shall I allow the angry mob to do it?

Nah the Eurovision Song Contest is a joke. I mean all the songs that take part are jokes (not to speak of Lordi). None of the songs never do well in the listings, so why do you send them?
-Because it's the best we can send.
Then why does it still exist?
-Because 50% of the population is stupid enough to watch it.

If I want to see music on TV I'll watch Queen Live at Wembley on DVD

Well, don't know about you, but I'm voting angry mob ! :computer:

Seriously, Stig's question...

[...]why does it still exist?

...pretty much sums up my view on the matter. I really can't fathom people watching, and even enjoying this 'festival'.

"Enjoying" is not the word.

Sometimes it can be very satisfying to spend an evening getting irritated and ridiculising those "artists" who are appearing on your television screen.

It's also an ideal occasion to organise a "throw your socks at the television screen"-contest...

It's great fun, and even more so if combined with huge amounts of alcohol :2thumbsup: ~

Tried that last year, didn't work ... problem is that most of the time there's nothing else on the TV

It's worse then Kinderen voor Kinderen:

You really want to die, don't you?

Or our very own favorite politician *cough* Hilbrand Nawijn (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cK2hGzR63I0), from the TV program "So you wanna be a popstar"

And someone from the same program who can actually sing, tho no-one expected it Eric Hulzebosch (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYI9i00eYrY) and again (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUd3cfGYkRs). The good thing is that he speaks with one of the worst accents in Holland (mine), and when he sings you hear nothing of it.
