been playing the TW series (single player) for a while currently on RTW, can anybody list the unlockable factions, I have unlocked some by completing & was wondering if its possible to unlock more by playing different factions or do u have to be roman & crush a faction b4 u can play them? i dont for instance seem to be able to play the armenians after i've crushed them!:help:

Hi sjmxru,
Sorry, yet destroying a faction does not allow you to play. Sorry.

The unlockable factions become available to play once you have completed a campaign, long or short, with a ready unlocked faction.

The unlockable factions are The Greek Cities, The Seleucid Empire, Egypt, Brittania, Germania, Gaul and Parthia.

With a little bit of good old fashioned modding you can easily make them all completely playable at the start. Simply go into your, if you own Gold, "C:\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.txt" or "C:\Activision\Rome - Total War\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.txt" should you own the standard version, not Gold.

Simply cut and paste all the non-playable and unlockable factions into the playable section making sure that there are tabs before each faction's code name. Then start up Rome and all factions should be playable.

Good luck and enjoy your game, cheers!

BTW, this will, sadly, not work in 1.3, it requires 1.5 to work correctly or it will CTD on the campaign start. If you desire more information regarding the patch update then don't hesitate to ask and I will be more than willing to aid you.

thanks oman for that....

sounds like i have unlocked all the factions i can without modding, i dont have gold but i will try the pasting route but i'm not sure what version i have (sat in work at the mo so cant check)

hope i can open up a few more factions, i thought i had to destroy a faction & complete in order to be able to play them, i guess it wasn't as simple as that when it didnt work there one time, but i wasnt playing the romans so i thought that was the prob

cheers again

Hi again sjmxru,
May I ask if you have installed any patches? If not then you will either have 1.0, should you own standard R:TW, 1.3, should you own R:TW and BI yet not Gold or it will be 1.5 (R:TW) and 1.6 (BI) should you have Gold. It can work with 1.3, people have suceeded, yet it requires some extra modding to do so which is way beyond my humble knowlage. Hope this helps you, cheers!

as far as i know i have the standard rtw (bought it when it first come out havin played stw & mtw)

i've just downloaded patches 1.3 & 1.5 I'm told i need to load 1.3 b4 1.5 in order for it to work.

just to clarify i need to load both in order to unlock any extra, currently non-playable factions (i.e spanish) i take it? i just want to play a different faction for a change.

do i have to cut the patch in to the existing game?

cheers

Run the v1.3 patch first, then follow that with the v1.5 patch. AFAIK your old savegames will not be compatible, so your best bet is to clean them all out.

After this you can go through unlocking the locked and non playable factions. Frogbeastegg's guide in the RTW guides section describes how to do this in more detail.

-Edit: You should notice a difference, with the v1.5 patch. v1.0 was very buggy, imbalanced and generally very poor indeed.

You have to exit RTW and then run the v1.3 patch. The patch should find your RTW install, and patch it when you click "next, next next, finish". I doubt you'd have installed to a different location than the default, though it's possible of course. Once v1.3 is installed you need to run v1.5 in the same way.

It's years since I've run the patches, I have done it a fair few times in the past (due to numerous reinstalls) but I now have RTW Gold which is already patched up to v1.5, so I don't need to now, and thus don't remember too many specifics of their installation.

installed the patches 1.3 & then 1.5 and then changed the playable factions around in the text but they wouldnt play when i fired up game so after checking the text alterations a few times i unloaded all of rtw included patches, reloaded it & simply chaged the text without patches and it works. trying to pluck the effort to try loading at least the 1.3 patch again but worried the new factions will become unplayable.
