I am playing a game on hard, as the English, around turn 40 or so. I am at war with France, Milan and Denmark, so pretty much everyone hates me.

I sent a few diplomats out, and thought i might be able to get Milan to chill out, while i finished off France, my mortal enemy. my Diplomat demanded map information from Milan, and they replied with we will give you 400 florins, and please don't attack us. Meanwhile, they have a huge stack marching toward my recently captured Paris. i thought it was odd, so i repeated my demand for map info, and they gave me more money. and again, and again. I took 5000 from them, before i got bored.

anyone seen this kind of odd behaviour before? every time i play, Milan does some really odd stuff. asking for alliance, then attacking me, for example.

what's up with those freaks?:smash:

I've seen some odd stuff from Milan. I had an alliance with them, they sieged one of my towns marched off next turn. Then offered a ceasefire I accepted cause I was already at war with the Scots and the French. I didn't feel like dealing with them. I thought it was strange atleast I know I'm not alone.

That would be the insanity that IS the AI in M2:TW...

Agree. The AI diplomacy is totally random, non-sensical and irrational. Don't try to figure it out. You'll just burn up valuable brain cells.

just as a quick follow up, i tried it again in successive turns, and it still works. just the one city though. all other milanese elements act not so crazy.

i often get some weird results if i demand map information...some even come back with offers of cash and alliances.

weird.

You know, there's been a lot of bellyaching about the Diplo in MTWII, but honestly, I feel like it's been pretty sketchy since STW.

One post every 226 seconds?

Jimminy crickets.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but I think demanding map information is taken as a sign of aggression by the AI. You are in essence demanding to know exactly where all of their territory is, which would help you in planning an assault strategy. I think the AI has said something to that effect to me before when I was merely trying to trade map information.

I've long since given up trying to make any sense of diplomacy in this game. I just consider myself in a constant state of war will all factions and don't talk to them again after I have completed my map of the world.

In a future mod I may make, I am considering modding out diplomats completely since diplomacy is non-existent, bribes are impossible, and their animations are so ssslllllooooooooooooooooowwwwwww..........either that or put a 1 agent limit on them or something.

I'll wait until after 1.2 and see how it goes.

milan is full of crazy people who love to fight french people, and anybody else who they might think is french....so my advice...stay away from france

I was playing even with a diplomacy fix and 2 of my allies (which I hadn't bothered keeping realtions with so its no real wonder) Scotalnd and Venice declared war on me. Milan also declared war on me, that turns diplomacy scroll was priceless. The Papal States declared war AND excommunicated Scotland, Venice and Milan! 3 Excommunications in one turn is the most I've ever seen, and I'm very glad the Papal States is my ally :P
