First I have to say I love the mod, and I am looking to start a new campaign. I like the look of the "persian troops" and would like to play a faction that would include most of these units. I want to play as a faction with a persian feel to it. I really don't want to take the helm of the beast (AS), so the only choices I could think of would maybe be pontus, the Hay, or parthia, who should I choose?

pontos has a lot of persian troops. also once you take some regions you get access to hellenic and barbarian troops also, great selection.

it's a very tough campaign also.

I'd say go Pontus. But any EB faction is the right faction.

Any vanilla faction is the wrong faction.

I wouldn't start with Pontos as they are one of the few factions that are not quite complete yet as far as units are concerned.

I would suggest you go for Hayasdan or Pahlava, or if you are into AS but don't want the beast, try Baktria. It is one of the most enjoyable campaigns I ever had. You get a lot of Hellenic units but have access to a huge amount of local 'Persian' troops. And Hattis of course!

Well, all the eastern factions will have a tough go of it, relatively speaking, since the AS is next door. We'll have at least two more quality units for our eastern factions to help combat the AS with in the next build by the way.

I am leaning to the parthian faction, but I have read rumors that they are getting a major rebuild for the next release, and I'm wondering if it is worthin waiting for the surprise. If it is then I was thinking of starting a campaign as carthage, maybe give the "challenge" a go.

Man TA your such a tease!

Yea that challenge looks a bit tough, I can't even play Carthage on my normal house rules, managing a seperated empire is not fun. :clown:

Depends on how long you intend to play the campaign and what is your average length.

There is still a lot left to be done before the next release and you could probably get away with playing a full Parthian campaign.

It depends on what style you like.
I am all for mobile archer tactics, so Pahlava is my favorit, they start whit out the ability to recruit any normal infantri, in the initial stage, after the conquest, so you have to rely on your HA and missel infantry, and do a loot of micromanagment, because you have almoust nothing to stop the enemy cavalery, but your tank: the general.
Hayasdan, on the other hand is much more of a mix, they have access, to some avarage ingantry and HA, so you can chose your battel style from normal to mobile like whit the Pahlava.

But I love both factions, curently plaing Pahlava, having a blast of fun, and after that I think of plaing the Hay.

Out of Pontos, Hayasdan and Pahlava, the latter one is easiest for their horse archers. After a little conquest you can recruit Persian and Median forces, although no elites. I'm playing as AS, and forming small armies from natives with a factional core is great. It gives a lot of variety to battles.

Pontos. The Pontics have a very limited unit roster so by necessity your forced to use more reagionals.

The Pontics have the most varied unit roster of any faction I think. They have four cities that train their elite infantry, one to train their elite cavalry and the rest are various reagionals including eastern, hellenic and even Thracian units, along with some steppe HA and archers if you choose to expand that way.

Apart from Thrace and Iberia, Asia Minor might be the single richest region in the game. Keeping the AS from taking over strenghtens every faction surrounding them. Pontos is my first campaign where the AS hasn't been able to steamroll everyone else. :2thumbsup:

Yes, for a " true " Persian army, Baktria and Pontos are the closest.
Pontos as especially Persian bodyguards...

And kicking AS out of Asia Minor is a very good thing for the variety of the game...
