I looked at the units page for Makedonia and saw that you can recruit Taxeis Triballoi. I have all the thrakian lands in my Mak campaign but can't recruit them yet. So

1. in which provinces can you recruit Taxeis Triballoi and

2. what MIC do you need?

Also, what MIC is needed to recruit Cretan Archers in Crete?

I think you need L4MIC to get them, in Thrace.

Creten Archers require a L4MIC, so a 3 or 4 government is required.

Hmmm.... I'll go and see. For Naissos, I think that Level 4 MIC description says I can recruit Thraikioi Peltastai, Hippeis, and Prodromoi, but no Triballoi. And I think Naissos is the place where the Triballoi live - at least the description says (when they were independent) "Eleutheroi (Triballoi)".

For the Cretans, can I make a Type 4 Government, build the appropiate MIC required, then switch back to a Type 2 Government and will be still able to recruit Cretan Archers?

Currently, yes. And I have done that very thing...in many places, including Crete.

For the Taxeis Triballoi, I'm not sure. I've never played a faction in that region for very long. Someone else is bound to know...

Thanks so far, MAA. Perhaps someone other knows how to recruit them.

Taxeis Triballoi are native MIC level 4.

In which provinces?

IIRC the Getai in any case could recruit them in those "Thracian" mountain provinces stretching from north of Pella towards Byzantion. Dunno 'bout the Maks and others, but I'd find it a bit strange if their zone wasn't similar.

Dardanoia, Ordysai and Thraikia Hypertera

I had to build a type II government type in krete, in order to get the archers....also, i didn't think this was worthy of its own thread, so does makedonia get its hysteroi (sp?) pezhetairoi after the roman marian reforms? I'm needing better armored units to combat the romans, and ive got too many argyraspidai as it is...

I think for certain Greek factions, Toxotai Kretikoi is a factional unit rather than a local one. KH, Epeiros and Makedonia come to mind.

Not sure about the hysteroi pezhetairoi, but they really are inferior to argyraspidai, so if you can't make do with argyraspidai, you are dead. But really, you don't need better armoured units. You simply need better cavalry and lotsalotsalotsa sphendonetai. They are your best friend. Give them practice on the Romani lugoae, gaeroas, and assorted topless men first, then use them on hastati and principes. I crushed the Romani and their eight nearly-full stacks with only 2 fullstacks of pezhetairoi, hoplitai and hippeis thessalikoi, because I had with me 6 units of sphendonetai in each army, all with at least 2 bronze chevrons. ^_^ Get better cavalry. Even triarii can't break past a pezhetairoi phalanx on the field, so you should have absolutely no problems.

im getting the job done just fine with the argyraspidai, its just that it pains me that, at least in asia minor, i cant recruit pezhetairoi and only the deuteroi and the argyraspidai instead...so im forced to use the better troops because there is no in-between....as for the sphendonetai....yea i need to get some to practice on some lighter troops.

It always disheartens me to see their flung stones(3+ units of them) hitting a unit of the elite italian allied infantry guys....and not doing hardly any damage.....ooooo.

I've noticed that Taxeis Triballoi are very cheap. They cost not much more than 600 in recruitment, and 200 in upkeep. They are 200 men on huge scale. 160 Agrianians e. g. cost thrice. Even Syrian archers cost double. Is that a bug, or is it intentional? They are damn good infantry btw., with lots of "bang for your buck". ~:D

Are the Taxeis Triballoi that good then, their stats seem like really inferior to their description. Then again, I never thought that Hyrkanian hillbillies could pack that much punch either.

I´m playing the Macedonians and I ascertained that the only settlements where you can build Taxeis Tribaloi are Tylis and Serdike. You need a Gov. Type 3 with Mic Level 4 (local !!!).
You can get Cretan Archers from Kydonia (Gov. Type 2, Mic Level 4 (native!).

Best regards
Marcel

OK, I see you changed it in the meanwhile.

Thanks. May I ask how to see from that amount of text what are the respective areas of recruitment? It doesn't seem to mention names.~

We code each province with a unique grouping of HRs, to see the HRs avaliable in each province you need to open up descr_regions.txt in the world/maps/base folder.

It's still confusing, though. I haven't figured it out yet, since the headache always comes first. XD
