Did anyone use the force_diplomacy cheat and didn't receive an error? Or is this just one of those cheats that don't work?

The only two "cheats" that have ever worked for me and not gotten errors are;
add_money 40000,
and toggle_fow .
No others have ever worked. There have been times when a population increase would really have helped. Force Diplomacy would have really helped to preserve a few factions as well.

Guiniawolf,
Do you have BI installed? It was the same for me before installing BI. Now it seems to be changed.
I prefer not using the cheat codes at all, but there have been a few times I really wanted to add to population. There have also been turns when I'd be blockaded in several locations, besieged in others, need to replace casualties and repair buildings caused by rioters, with a negative account. So I took it!
Other games, I have such a high income that I don't even notice blockades, and there's plenty to retrain and repair.

most of the cheats require you to specify the location .. like add_population 2000 Arretium .. or process_cq Arretium // if the place has a longer name like 234 4345 than you should write 234_4345 .... most of the cheats will work .. try searching on the web ...
by the way cheating makes the game boring ... at least in my opinion ...
good luck

I agree. I don't like to do it either. When I was playing the XGM, Pontus (who had been my ally) attacked me at Side (Just West of Antioch). I had over 6,000 people, and it was growing and I was building. Then, I had to start recruiting. I also had to replace casualties. After fighting off what had to have been 20+ full stacks, I was down to 400, and could not even replace casualties.
What saved me was that I had Salamis down on Cypress. By training a unit of Nubian Spearmen every turn, and running them into Side, I was able to discharge them, and replace casualties. Occasionally, Salamis would also send some Cavalry or Phalangites. I'd bring them into Side when I broke the siege, and retrain those by getting them armor. I've since taken Sardis and Antioch from Pontus. They are not concentrating on Side anymore, but they sure seem to want Sardis and Antioch badly! To my good fortune, I've been able to fill all three with full stacks of good units with silver quality armor, so my casualties are lower. Side is now up to 11,600 and I'll be upgrading it soon.
I could have gone ahead and lost, but I admit that Pontus stabbing me in the back, and then besieging Side literally every turn really got me perturbed. As a result, I've more stayed in with the money cheat code to destroy Pontus than anything else. Pontus is now down to just a few cities, and none of them are well garrisoned. I intend to go wipe them out.

Dexter,
I did do a save before the first add_money, but I would not know how to send a saved game. Without adding the money, I doubt that Side would have survived more than another turn or two. I was actually considering leveling and evacuating the city. I may go bac and do that later, and play it out again. If there is a way to send it to you, let me know, and I'll try to do it.

Does anybody know if installing the 1.5 and 1.6 patch would help guineawolf? I suspect that it would, but I don't really know for sure. Could we please help him out?

RE: Use of cheats in R:TW: Never used one yet. I like the challenges that are posed on VH/H - especially when playing a barbarian or eastern faction. Sometimes you do have to be patient in the areas of financial or population growth.
And although I'm yet to resort to a cheat code for this game, I will admit there has been a time or two when I've hoisted the white flag and given up! Stupid AI! Why doesn't it let me have my way! Heh, heh... :surrender2:
guineawolf - if you dont have BI - barbarian invasion - the only patch you can use is 1.5 as this is the max for Rome TW.
I you can`t buy BI in any local shop ... try e-bay ... or if it`s a problem whit $$$ than save, save, and save some more ...

I spotted this bit Celt, and thought I would just mention in case it was helpful.
Your saves are all stored in your Save file and can be copied to another folder, or stored on memory stick for example to play on a different computer.
The same way, you could save your file on a download page and link it here for others to play. they could then give you feed back on how they handled the situation.
I saw this done previously with someone trying to defend against a seige.
they asked the forum to try his game and see if they could save the city.
Hope this helps in some way :2thumbsup:

or just attach the file in a email and email it to the person ;)

I went into my activision files, Rome, XGM, Saves, and found it there as "destroy and evacuate." For some reason, I am "not able to post attachments", and am unable to send it by this mode.
Anyone wishing to play it please leave me a pm with a personal email address. It looks like I can send it that way. I also ran the save through my virus scan, and it reads as clean, so should be safe to send to you.
The save was made after the situation seems near hopeless, and before I started to add money.
My inclination at this point to salvage the situation is to abandon Side, and evacuate the army to Salamis, and try to build back up from there.
