Thank you for reading this...I need some help quick:

1) I have the "Direct2Drive" version of this game, patched to 1.1. How soon after 1.2 officially releases do you think the 1.2 will be up for direct2drive users (assuming someone who uses these forums has direct2drive as well).

2) I originally was going to not play MTW2 until I got a new PC for it...but then broke down, downloaded it and had a GREAT campaign for about 2 weeks as the HRE. It's still in my save games...only one up there heh. I'm going to come back to it and start up a new campaign (England) as well but I need something clarified for me before I start, to put me at ease about something:
My performance, with large unit sizes and basically all graphics settings turned down quite a bit, still have very good performance and what I consider to be more than acceptable graphics for a game like this. I was up to about 40 or so turns in with my HRE campaign, and no problems because of my PC yet. Could I expect this performance to continue throughout the entirety of one of my campaigns, or are there things that happen down the road in a campaign that would require even higher system capabilities? For example, larger armies....many countries amassing on a battlefield, calling for 8,000+ soldiers etc. Or are things kept relatively streamlined, just an advancing of the tech tree ...with some battles large, some small? Because if I remember correctly, even 4,000-6,000 troops was feasible for me.

3) Is the expansion pack that's coming out later this summmer/fall whatever, going to up the system requirements...or is this still in the "to be announced" department?

4) Lastly, what are the recommended difficulties for all of you...what is sort of the "standard"? I was playing HRE on M/M just to get a feel for the new game and found this to be MUCH better than an M/M on Rome:TW. So, what are most of you using...VH campaign, M battles? What?

To anyone who helps me here, thank you very much in advance. I'd like to get a new game going but need to clear this stuff up before I dive in.

Once again, thank you.

1. I have no idea what your talking about here. I never heard of Direct2Drive and I am A+ Certified.

2 and 3. You should be fine, if it runs nicely now, don't worry about it later. Also, with the expansion pack comming out in a bit, it will add a little grapical improvements so who knows, but it won't be "OVER THE TOP"

4. I play on Hard but thats just me. I don't want to make the world hate me and I want my battles to be at least a little challenging.

thanks for the reply...

FYI- Direct2Drive is one of the larger online distributors for games/movies, etc. In other words, I didn't have to go to the store and buy MTW2, I just downloaded it and installed it. Further, it posts all patches for the game, specifically for the downloaded version. In the past they were criticized for being too slow (like, 2 months behind the retail patch) but the 1.1 patch came out same day...I'm hoping for the same thing this time around but can't find ANY info about it.

Thanks again though...

p.s. just to clarify ArtistofWarfare's statement. D2D IS NOT Warez, you do still pay for the game, but you download it instead of getting a disk. Their where advertisements for it on FileFront a while back, Ironically enough they where for M2TW LOL.

Yes...heh, I should have clarified myself. Apologies.

It certainly is pay.

One last thing, I forgot about this: Will 1.2 be save game compatible? I know this is always asked 1000 times, but I've yet to find the actual answer in any posts.

Thanks.

1. No idea when D2D patch will be out, but IIRC 1.1 was out LATER than the boxed version. I'd go on that.

2. To answer that question accurately we need your system specs (sounds just like the n00b helpdesk assistants at Dell at my ISP). I'd say if you had no problem till now you're fine. Only later on you may have Huge city battles which are a burn on the GPU. Anyway if you're playing your game 'right' you'll never have to do a city battle.

3. I don't think so. Perhaps marginally by 3-4%.

4. M campaign, VH battles. Have played a lot og VH/VH but it's silly how dumb it gets sometime. I know it's called Total WAR but hell it's not called annihilate my sorry butt, and that's what the AI begs for on VH/VH. Glad to oblige though. :)

5. 1.2 will probably NOT be savegame compatible, no official word on that IIRC, but that's how it always went.

One thing I'd recommend is installing Carl's PureFixer, it addresses a lot of the bugs currently in the game. It's a compilation of fixes by various members of the community. It's REALLY worth the install.

I did'nt play since December because of the bugs but now, man, this game ROCKS.

Hey I'm really sorry but I'm WRONG on point number 5.

Correction:
5. Savegames WERE compatible in 1.1 !

So I cannot answer that one with any degree of certaintm but I guess in that case 1.20 should logically follow 1.1 and also be savegame compatible.

Weird logic huh ? ;)

I just wish they would state it, at least a week or two in advance. They know why this is relevant: We want to know if we can start new campaigns or should wait until the new patch comes out. I bet there are thousands waiting for the patch before starting a new campaign.

I'm just stuck sitting here wondering...hmmm...EB .81 or MTW1.1 for now?

I'm like seconds away from just installing Rome and EB.81 and then worrying about this patch issue in a few months when I'm ready for my next MTW2 campaign heh (AFTER a LONG EB campaign heh).

One of the people with the unofficial/leaked patch should be able to tell you that.

About the patch, you are supposed to install 1.2 with a clean install, not with 1.1 on so I don't know how D2D will deal with it

The "leaked" version of 1.2 that many are ... testing atm you have to do as a clean install to avoid a CTD bug. That was one of several reasons they delayed it.

This does NOT however mean that the official release will require a clean install. I think most (all?) of the TW patches over the years have been save game compatable and if I were forced to bet, I would bet this one will be as well.
