View Full Version : Where's Yuezhi?
Hi,
Just a question
Where is Yuezhi? I know there was a faction of Yuezhi at the northeast corner of the map. It was there in .1 beta? and it disappeared in the .81a.
So when did it disappear and what was the reason behind it?
Is there any plan to bring the Yuezhi back?

I think after further research dem EB boys figured they came into our map a little too late to be included. They came after Bactria was a strong empire and then the Yuezhi :smash:ed Bactria...

i really liked the Yuezhi, personally.
maybe they will fit the timeframe for the late period project?
it was interesting playing a very asian faction in a very european map...maybe it was just me...

I believe it was planned for them to be in the late project, but I'm not sure.

Wikipedia says the Yuezhi were at war with the successor states of Alexander and invaded Baktria:
"The Great Clan of Yue", is the Chinese name for an ancient Central Asian people. They are believed to have been the same as or closely related to the Indo-European people named Tocharians (Τοχάριοι) by ancient Greeks. .....
Invasion of Bactria
One of the first Yuezhi coins, imitative, in crude style, of the coins of the Greco-Bactrian king Heliocles, circa 120 BCE[citation needed].
Obv: Presumed bust of a Yuezhi chief with Greek royal headband.
Rev: Zeus with thunderbolt and sceptre. Misspelled Greek legend BASILEO HELIOLEEU "(of) King Heliocles".In 124 BCE[citation needed] the Yuezhi were apparently involved in a war against the Parthians, in which the Parthian king Artabanus I of Parthia was wounded and died:
"During the war against the Tokharians, he (Artabanus) was wounded in the arm and died immediately" (Justin, Epitomes, XLII,2,2: "Bello Tochariis inlato, in bracchio vulneratus statim decedit").
Some time after 124 BCE[citation needed], possibly disturbed by further incursions of rivals from the north, and apparently vanquished by the Parthian king Mithridates II, successor to Artabanus, the Yuezhi moved south to Bactria. Bactria had been conquered by the Macedonians under Alexander the Great in 330 BCE, and since settled by the Hellenistic civilization of the Seleucids and the Greco-Bactrians for two centuries."

Right now i don't think much work is being done on it but some people are making a new start date for EB, as a unofficial mod. The date will be when the Marian Reforms kick in, 172 b.c.
there is a thread in the unoffical mod sub-forum, it may be a ways back though...

172 BC is about the time the Yuezhi started to move into Baktria, I believe, so it would be perfect for the sub-mod. Too bad it seems to be a dead mod though....

From what i understand they are going to wait until EB was 1.0 or very close to finished.

I believe the start date was to be 107BC. It was just difficult to update it along with all the changes that we had to do for 0.8 and onwards, so it fell by the wayside. Its an interesting idea, so you never know.
