Anyone else ever found it odd how the units in the English UI all look different from the other catholic nation's units even though it is the same unit and looks the same on the battlemap?

Just to name a few examles off the top of my head:
Dismounted Feudal Knights
Peasants
Armoured Sergeants
Spear Militia
Town Militia
Priest

There might be a few more, but I wonder what CA intended by doing that. Are the English special somehow that they would deserve that? (I suppose maybe because CA is based in England?)

Could it be because they are one of the starting nations you can play? I think they are intended as the "default" faction if you know what I mean.
It would be a bit sad if your last sentence was true.

and do not forget they are the only faction that gets a unique guild

France, HRE and Scotland for instance are default/starting factions too but they all look the same.
I'm still thinking it might be because CA is English.
OTOH there were reports of localized versions where only the localized faction had more than a one-liner for battlespeeches for example.

Well IMO since MTW it was clear what the general world view as per MTW, is.

The difference is probably a combination of factors, the heaviest weight going to the "work in progress never completed" factor. They may have also wanted to do the same for other factions but never managed to. The battle speech difference also indicates prioritisation of factions and development of the factions as such. Prioritisation of factions in heirarchy was quite clear in MTW as well.

Just look at ancillaries for Orthodox or Muslims. I could think of many, many more. Then again for the Muslim factions, it can also be a case of lack of good reseachers, as it is difficult to have accurate and good information on historic Islam. You need dedicated, educated and most of all extremely perserverent researchers to accurate portray the Islamic factions in a game such as this. That's because the defeated Islamic empires often lost a lot of military their history in the conquest. Their version of events. For example a few years back I found a BRILLIANT military history of the Reconquista written by a Moorish scholar in Arabic, but I found it in South Asia, not in Iberia. It was THE original copy. It's amazing how a museum had'nt got a hold of it and it had found itself half the way across the world. Probably a wealthy collector who had to sell it or it was sold by kin of a deceased. Then we have to remember our geographical location and that of CA, over here you'll mostly find the Western view. It's hard to find accurate military historical information from the Islamic perspective. CA could have invented stuff of course. Anyway it's a great work, and a good job that they achieved. In the credits you can also see that this time they DID hire a researcher/s for Islamic factions. They made an effort. Although I think that these researchers were more advising on the political and historical aspects in general, and not military aspects. Anyway sorry for the OT there.

In STW it was non-existant. All factions were attended to equally.

There are many differences similar to this, but it's still much better than MTW which was plain annoying how neglected somce factions were in comparison to others. Everyone has their favorites I guess. Mine being the TURKS ! or.. maybe the Mongols... Egyptians are soooo 'exotic'... hmm English are cool with LBS though.. ohh well .... maybe the Timurids. Nah... TURKS !!!

Personally I wish they would throw equal detail to all factions, but like I said I'm much impressed over MTW/VI. Big improvement and congrats on that.

Always room for improvement, naturally. ;)
