Hi, I'm currently in the process of formulating a story I'm planning to write. Its a historical fiction/ fantasy, set in the Sengoku Jidai, and I was wondering if anyone had some good Japanes names for characters. I have almost no knowledge of the Japanese language, and know very few Japanes names. The main characters will include a Ninja(assassin), a Samurai, and a Miko. Other characters will mostly be minor, although I will have few historical figures placed in it, such as Uesugi Kenshin, Takeda Shingen, Uesugi Kagekatsu, and Takeda Katsuyori. Any help would be much appreciated.
Edit: There's also a kunoichi, who will play a sem-important role as well.

Ughh, should have predicted that one. Any names BESIDES Saski Kojiro?
EDIT: Not that its a terrible name, from what I can tell, I just really don't want to think about Sasaki Kojiro running around in my story line.

The web is a lovely thing. Not that Madame Butterfly isn't lovely, but there are plenty more to choose from besides Puccini's ~:)

<-------------Who the hell name their warlord a strawberry?
I think Casanova-kun is the best. My tip: don't name anyone in your story Ichigo, Sakura, or such "common" names abundant in modern fanfiction scene. They suck :P
One question to the learned: are there significant differences in the naming conventions of the Sengoku era versus, say, post-war Japan?

Alright, this is getting ridiculuos. Don't post if all you're going to do is point to your name. ENOUGH ALREADY!:furious3:
Oh, and thank you, Rythmic, for actually answering the question. And thank you Antiochus III for the advice, though I had not planned on using the ultra common names that I've already heard of. That was sort of why I posted this thread in the first place.

Oh low-blow:bigcry:Not your fault man. You're our unique Csar Ichigo of the Org and that's fine. But if he's writing fiction then it's pretty advisable to, erm, stay away from the name, especially if one visits fanfiction.net even occasionally, or intends to create a plausible historical drama as such, which it appears is his intention.

Yeah. I guess that wouldn't be a good name. :laugh4:
