I want to look at the mechanics of how you get lumbered / gifted ancillaries and traits. They where quite accessible on RTW and MTW but I cannot find them in M2TW. Can someone point in the right direction. I ask as I would like to identify how to 'engineer' the good ones
ta
Export_Descr_character_traits and Export_Descr_ancillaries
Both are found in the Data sub-folder of your M2TW folder after running the unpacker.

btw, if all you want are the txt files, it's a bit tedious to unpack 7 gigs...
Change the unpacker .bat to read like this instead:
unpacker.exe --source=..\..\packs\*.pack --destination=..\..\ --filter=*.txt --verbosity=1

Dang, and here I unpacked everything just to fix the shieldbug!
Well I was already planning on doing a re-install once the official patch gets here.

Please remind how to unpack, it kind of sounds vaguely familiar.
Anything thing to do with xpac? files
Right, you'll need to go into your default M2TW folder. Typically called Medieval 2 Total War in:
C:\Program Files\SEGA
The Folder your looking for inside the M2TW folder is called "tools". In their you will find a folder called "Unpacker".
Theirs a file called "unpack_all", double left click it and leave it to run. It takes about 10-20 mins for me.
Now go back to the M2TW folder, you should have seen a folder called "Data" last time, go into it and find the following 2 files and delete them , (use the arrange by type organization option as it makes them easier to find):
descr_geography_new.txt
descr_geography_new.db
If you use the arrange by type option the .db file will be obvious as theirs only a couple of those files in that folder. the .txt file is a touch harder but they are all in alphabetical order so you should be fine. The 2 files I named in my first post are near the very bottom of the text files listings.

Have you patched it to v1.1 or v1.2?

No. Only mod is the no cd file.
You need the 1.1 patch installed.

Yup, the unpacker was a component in that patch. Either get it, or skip it and go for the leaked 1.2 patch straight away.

Thanks,
Not sure whether the games actually worth the effort and ill wait for the official patch feedback to see whether things have actually improved
