Hey all,

First of all, I just want to thank the EB team for their efforts and achievements regarding EB V.81a. This is an absolutely fantastic mod and an entire game unto itself. Clearly, one of the best strategy games ever made....hands down. Congrats guys, and thank you. Can't wait for your next installment!!!

My question is this: Regarding victory conditions, if I open up the faction detail scroll I see certain segments of the world map are highlighted. Naturally I assume that these are the regions I need to capture and hold to achieve victory. The thing is, if I click on the question mark on the upper right hand side, nothing happens...no further details show up. I'm just wondering, is this it? Just manage to capture all of the regions that are highlighted before 14AD and I win? Or is it still hold 50+ regions, INCLUDING the highlighted ones? Further, where can I find a list of what my victory conditions are with a given faction, rather than just put all of my faith into how I'm reading that map?

Thank you very much...Everything is installed and I'm about to start a new Carthage or Rome campaign as soon as I get this answered.

P.S. Does Carthage go as far on the tech tree as Rome or does Rome go one step farther than anyone (or two)?

Thanks guys....

Building trees vary by faction. Rome probably has access to more buildings than carthage though - we are very limited in our knowledge of Carthie buildings especially compared to some of the other factions. Carthage will be getting a new building group (two levels) in the next build though, that romans dont 'have.

What about the VC's though?

Looks like I'm going to stick with Rome for my first .81a campaign...it should last me a LONG time heh. Gonna go with VH/M as suggested.

I just want to peg down these VC's for sure before I start. I'd like to plan things out and I don't want to complete any turns going in the "wrong direction" so to speak.

Thanks again.

I'm surprised the victory conditions aren't explained in more detail somewhere. I've done several searches and nobody ever seems to answer this question fully...

Ironic, considering it's probably the most relevant thing.

Keep in mind most eb developers never make it to victory conditions - the internal build keeps changing and new things are being worked on primarily. I haven't gotten victory conditions ever in EB without purposefully cheating to bum rush a campaign to test it out.

Well, I think I've figured it out a little bit:

When you click on the "?" on the faction details main scroll your ADVISOR will pop up and list your specific victory conditions in his text box. So, combine what you see highlighted on the map with what your advisor details for you and bam, you have your victory conditions.

So that solves it for now...still, in the next version of EB, this should maybe be something to work on...making VC's more cut and dry.

Further, regarding the script to activate 4 turns per year and events: This should be a little more obvious to people. If I hadn't been searching around on the forums for 2 days here I never would have known about it and would've started a campaign without the script activated.

Very easy to activate, just difficult to even know about in the first place.

Other than that, once again, this is just a jaw dropping mod. And thank you for your help Teleklos. Appreciated.

When you click the question mark you should get this list (did you activate the script??)...

To fulfill your faction's victory conditions you must destroy the Qarthadastim, Epeiros, Pontos, the Ptolemaioi, the Koinon Hellenon, Makedon, the Aedui, the Arverni and Iberia conquer these areas (highlighted on map): Oxtraca, Tyde, Baikor, Gader, Pallantia, Numantia, Mastia, Vellika, Arse, Burdigala, Lemonum, Darioritum, Cenabum, Avaricum, Gergovia, Tolosa, Emporion, Bocchoris, Ippone, Bratosporios, Bibracte, Viennos, Massalia, Bagacos, Vesontio, Aventicos, Mediolanum, Segesta, Alalia, Karali, Kart Hadast, Adrumeto, Veldideno, Patavium, Iuvavoaeta, Bononia, Arretium, Lepki, Ariminum, Rome, Lilibeo, Vindobona, Segestica, Arpi, Capua, Messana, Syracuse, Taras, Rhegion, Epidamnos, Apollonia, Thermon, Korinthos, Sparte, Kyrene, Serdike, Pella, Demetrias, Athenai, Kydonia, Paraitonion, Chalkis, Pergamon, Sardis, Halikarnassos, Rhodos, Nikaia, Ipsos, Side, Salamis, Alexandreia, Memphis, Pselkis, Sinope, Amaseia, Tarsos, Antiocheia, Sidon, Hierosolyma, Dalminion, Damaskos, Sucum-Murgi, Diospolis Megale, Kirtan, Ankyra, Ammonion, Hibis, Mytilene, Naissos, Singidunum, Kallatis. For your raiding targets, press the ? again.

You also have to raid the following: Garama, Maryab, Eburonum, Seleukeia, Camulosadae, Phraaspa, Armavir, Meroe, Swebotraustastamnoz, Sarmiszegethusa.

If that doesn't work go into data/eb/text/export_advice.txt and serch for victory conditions and theres the list there (where I copied my paragraph from.

Also check out Your Faction Leader traits. One of them will also describe VC for given faction in details. What Faction You have to outlast. what cities to hold and what to raid.

Fantastic, thank you very much guys. THIS is a big help now heh...

Appreciated.

Added w/ Edit: Actually, define "raid"...does the game regard any "sack" as a successful "raid"?

Added w/ Edit, again: Further, looking through the .txt document that lists faction VC's, I see every faction listed EXCEPT Carthage. And yes, obviously I know it's not called "Carthage". Still, every faction has it's targets and raiding targets listed except Carthage. ????

I just added this again: Went and tried Carthage's faction lists scroll and sure enough, the question mark doesn't bring up the advisor. The faction leader has no victory conditions listed either. Coincidentally, every other faction has this working properly. Looks like someone just forgot to put in VC's for Carthage...which is obviously a MAJOR issue if it's true.

Raid means you must have owned the settlement at some point in the game. You need not keep it though.

As soon as you click on a settlement the first time you load or start a new game the advisor will pop up and tell you to activate the background script. I knew about it in the first place.

As for the VC, I think that every faction's VC is over 50 provinces anyway, so either way you are right.

Carthage's Victory Conditions. Basicly, all you need is all your starting towns, the rest of the west african coast, Iberia, Italy and your old homeland Phoenicia. Thetrait for the Sophet and the advisor city light up work for me...you sure you're doing it right?

For this man to successfully complete his faction's objectives, he must own Tyde, Pallantia, Vellika, Numantia, Emporion, Oxtraca, Baikor, Arsé, Gader, Mastia, Segesta, Bononia, Arretium, Ariminum, Roma, Capua, Canusium, Taras, Rhegion, Lilibeo, Messana, Syrakousai, Sidon, Bocchoris, Ippone, Alala, Karali, Kart Hadast, Adrumeto, and Lepki.

Even found their victory map.

For the big factions like Rome and the Seleucids, it is, but for the smaller ones not always. The Lusitanians is only 26.

1) Thank you for the information...I did in fact find the Sophet or whatever it's called and read it.

2) The map is included and what not, but the raiding is not listed. Obviously, this is because no raiding is required with Carthage.

3) The problem is that in the EB files, it lists every nation's specific victory conditions except Carthage. That is what I was referring to.

4) Would Carthage be considered a "major" faction?

5) How far up the tech tree does Carthage go...1 step lower than Rome, 2?

Thanks again...glad I'm getting clearer on all of this. As for the advisor, I don't think my advisor text was on...so he didn't show up the first time? Maybe this is what the problem was.

Added w/ Edit: My only other issue here is in the following scenario: I have to "raid" province "A" but I don't know where it is. If raiding provinces aren't also highlighted in black or something, this could present a problem for the player...simply wasting time/money/units just wandering around the map looking for province "a" heh. If in fact some factions DO have these labeled on their maps, good and sorry for the wasted text. I however, have not seen them.

4) All factions in Eb are considered major. Minor factions are represented by the Eleutheroi.

2. Ya not everyone has raiding targets.

3. It is, under a different name here's how it looks in the files.
{Tsorim_Victory_Conditions} Qarthadastim Victory Conditions

\nTo see this faction's unachieved victory conditions, open the Faction Scroll (O) and click the question mark button (?)

4. Yes

5. I'm not sure what you mean exactly. As far I know, Carthage get's the top tier of all the building types, expect rome gets 1 level higher roads, and 1 higher level aqueducts.

6. If you hit the question mark button after the first time when it lights up all the city you need to take, it will highlight the ones you need to raid. Also on the map, the proviences that are shown in black are the ones you need to raid.

Question: is it possible for Carthage to have multiple victory conditions depending on if the ruler has the Barcid or anti-Barcid trait?

Fondor_Yards

As far as I know, it's impossable to change VC mid campaign with scripting. You can go in and do it manually if you want, but the advisor highlighting thing will show the wrong ones.

I knew this topic had jsut come up, this should answer some questions.

And keep in mind that for some factions the VC's in the ruler's trait are a but off... Always double check with the advisor...

This is a good point. I believe the problem has been cleared up in our current internal build. I should also mention that the VCs for several factions have been modified since the 0.81a release.

Yeah, thanks again guys for all of the time and effort you've put into this thread. You're clearing a lot up for me and obviously, this information is now up here for anyone else who's trying to figure out the same things I am.

Last night of course, just as I was sitting down and getting ready to press the BUTTON to start my Carthage campaign, the phone rang. My sister got stuck (car broke down...alternator) about 3 hours upstate in a snowstorm and I had to go get her. So no TW for me last night :smash:

I was off from work today though and am, once again, sitting down to start this campaign. At least I can start it now without any more concerns, thanks to all of your contributions.

Thanks again!

You got me

I work down in New Jersey...so, when I woke up I contemplated "hmmm, New Jersey traffic or Ancient Carthage"....

Needless to say, this was not a difficult decision :egypt:

Gonna go start this campaign up. I'll be hanging around here this weekend quite a bit though...
