I downloaded EB today and installed it, when I installed it, it took a very long time to install. Then upon starting the game, it stayed on the copyright screen for a very long time and when going to the menu the cursor moved very sluggishly. I started a campaign, which took a very long time to load, and when it did load it lagged really badly. When I did a custom battle I had a similar problem. A friend of mine also has the lag problems only his game crashes as well. We both play Vanilla RTW often so I know our computers meet the requirements for the game. Why does the game run so slowly??:help:

Q: Why does EB run so slow?
A: EB contains substantially more data than vanilla RTW. EB pushes the limits of the RTW engine and requires more of your machine's resources.

Ah well...is there a way to speed it up a bit?

psshh... Rome wasn't built in a day you know, EB loads slow and plays slow to replicate this, since it is realistic, thus it is hard to actually do anything in the game since the game tries to play at real time speed.

But in all seriousness, upgrading your computer is really the only way to improve performance, by sides small system tweaks.

There was a guide around that would help you get as much out of your system you could, but I have no idea where that went or where to start looking.

Basically, don't have any programs running besides RTW. This includes things like antiviruses and internet downloads. Also set RomeTW.exe to High Priority. Also if you have a dual core, set affinity of RomeTW.exe to only one of the processors.

I go into Task Manager and close all programs that don't either start right back up, aren't allowed to be closed (end in ...ss), or will crash the computer (explorer.exe, System, System Idle Processes, svchost.exe).

That one looks like a good candidate for a sticky.
