View Full Version : XPac vs Patch

I'd like to know how many people feel cheated by CA for releasing an Expansion Pack (more money) before they have fixed the major bugs in M2TW in any way at all.
I personally feel cheated, we can all see now what they have been spending their time doing. And bugfixing obviously isn't number one on their list of priorities.

CA = business
Business = money to keep on going and to pay for future games
Money = main priority for a business.

So yes they're going to focus more dev time on the expansion than on patches.

But I'm not going to buy their X-Pac because I feel so conned. That = less money.

And there will be hundreds of thousands out there who will. The amount of people who visit forums, and find out about the bugs is a small minority.

And there will be hundreds of thousands that, for exactly the same reason, will not download any patches and will never come back to TW again because the original game is so broken.

I have a friend of mine who owns all the TW games, and he's downloaded a patch for them and he's quite happy. I've never met a person yet outside of the forums who's noticed a 10th of the bugs.

Most people just don't notice most bugs, and carry on playing quite happily.

And the 1.2 patch will fix most of the major bugs, if not all of them as we know from the leaked version. Hardly not fixing it.

It's a poor rationale, but is the reality.

Good going.

But a leaked patch isn't an official patch. I'm still waiting for my game to be fixed. And announcing the X-Pac before they fix it isn't endearing them to me. I have long defended CA and TW. but this has turned me against them.
No more...

Well the 2nd patch was planned to be out in late feb/march, with the expansion announcement coming after that. But the patch delay messed that up, and if they are going to build up the expansion they needed to keep on schedule with the announcement for it.

If the 2nd patch had been out in late feb/march there wouldn't be this problem, but i don't think it would have been as good as the leaked patch we currently have is.

Never saw any of the bugs everyone talks about until entering this site.

LOL. Thanks.

This debate is not new, it's been there since MTW IIRC. Same... same...

And... like before.. I assume the motion that they should fix the bugs before releasing an xpack will in all likelyhood be passed with a resounding majority (if people vote that is).

Promoting the expansion without having fixed the shield bug (among others) was not a good move, IMO. I'll have no interest in an xpack until I've got and played a properly working original.

What? You expect them to delay the annoucement just for that? I'm surprised that some people still hold this thought.

You mean a vocal minority.

Eitherway, barring delays, the patch should be able to come out before the expansion.

I have no problem with them announcing an Xpack but i do have a problem with having to wait 5 months (and still counting) to fix the original game.

It leaves a bad taste in my mouth to think about it and seriously dampened my enthusiasm for any expansion.

Every time I cooment on threads like this Sapi locks them.

Where's the Gah! option?

Seriously, do you have any idea how you make a game at all? Let's see how it would be if they did it your way:

1. Original game released
2. Patches released for between half a year and a year
3. Only then beginning work on the expansion pack
4. Release the expansion pack, a couple of year after the bugs were fixed.

That's an EXTREMELY inefficient way of doing this. There would be a ton of people sitting around and twiddling thumbs. Say you have a staff of 100 men. 20 of those will be needed for bugfixing. What are the remaining 80 supposed to do? What do you want them to do? Twiddle thumbs, or working on an expansion? I say they should be working on an expansion or the next game in the series.

Seeing things as patch vs expansion, is, well, idiotic. They do both at the same time.

Gah.

They are working on a patch, an expansion pack, and Fast as a Shark. Have to keep the wheels rolling to make money.

Feel cheated? God no, every expansion CA has made for the TW series has been worth every penny spent on it, and this looks... by leaps and bounds... to be the best yet.

CA has never made me feel cheated... nobody has produced a medieval war sim on par with any of the TW games. Not even close. There are bugs, and some very annoying ones, but if you wanna see what happens when a company doesn't give a damn about it's game and it's fans, try picking up Madden sometime.

My experience as a hardcore Madden fan has me more than prepared to deal with an uncaring company, which CA is CLEARLY not.

PS: If worse comes to worse, the patch will be released WITH the expansion, so no, in the long run, nobody will be cheated.
