View Full Version : Variation on the ctd problem

When I bought MTW VI gold edition about 6 months back I had on of the CTD probs mentioned in many threads, but sorted it by following several of the well-known fixes.

However, I occasionally get a CTD problem - not on the battlemap or the strategy map, but on the deployment screen before a battle. It's only when the battle will have a large number of forces. The screen comes up showing my troops and the enemy's, and it's there for about 20-30 secs and then CTD.

It's weird. It doesn't happen often, but when it doesn I can't spend time planning my troops and reinforcements - i just have to almost accept what's thrown up and then when delpoying on the battlemap I swap unwanted troops out. It can be very frustrating - particularly if the battle before which is crashed is the 3rd or something that turn and I lose the first couple when it crashes. But like I said, it doesn't happen all that often so it doesn't really stop me enjoying the greatest strategy game of all time

Anyone else seen this variation on the ctd prob. I haven't read about it anywhere, so not sure if it's just mine.

The pre battle screen has a tendancy to crash the game if you try to alt tab from it. I wonder if it may also be vulnerable to anything you may have running in the background... other than that I'm not sure what's causing it. Have you tried closing all unnecessary programs in your taskbar before running the game?

I think it happened to me once.

Maybe, if your computer is a bit old, and the battle was large, was due to the video card "overloading"? (My comp. is old, with a 32 mb video card, and it sometimes lags a bit in very big battles)

Thanks guys for your thoughts. The PC is new, video card should be fine (128 mb I think from memory). I don't alt tab either. Don't have any other programs running but maybe something from the taskbar....:inquisitive:

I'll try shutting some of them off next time it happens....
