that is the question and the answer would be "it depends on what you call yourself"

Any thoughts?

Yikes. Holier than thou-ness everywhere one looks.
"I and [fellow board member] Shlomi [Hayun] won't be there," he insisted, since "we won't lend a hand to the exclusion of a grieving father, whether he's a Reform rabbi or an Orthodox rabbi or a sewer cleaner. No one asked to be in this family."
sounds right to me. But what do I know... I'm just a fallen-away catholic fundamentalist secularist buddhist - or something.

So from the article we have one side being hateful concerning a certain statement about the raise of nazism being the fault of reform jews. And a reform jew being told he can't say a prayer as a rabbi, most likely because of this same hateful group.
So other then the obvious attempt at trolling that your initial statement is - what issue are you trying to bring forth other then the ballant obvious that some bigots still exist in the world.

It's sad, and unfortunate that fundamentalism of any stripe so often tends to counteract human decency, respect, and compassion.

Perhaps, a prayer for understanding is in order?

the main issue is the increasing fractures growing in Israel (and Judaism if you want to take recent events in Germany or NY as other examples), though the story itself gives wide scope to cover many issues...hence the obviously annoying and inflammatory statement of.....Any thoughts?
Perhaps, a prayer for understanding is in order?
nice thought , but would your prayer be accepatble ?~;)

Tsk tsk - that wasn't the comment that was the trolling statement. Try again.

Perhaps we could discuss the implications of the article posted rather than tease out who and what may be trolling?
Thank you kindly.
If those non-reform jews now require a cantor for a prayer instead of a rabbi as it was before, doesn't that kinda make them reform jews themselves?:dizzy2:

Anyone notice this quote from the article
So the Reform can't represent the entire audience as a prayer leader.
Funny isn't it , since neither can orthadox , and since it is a ceremony for remembering all fallen Israeli soldiers Judaism cannot represent all those being remembered .
Perhaps we could discuss the implications of the article posted rather than tease out who and what may be trolling?
Its OK Banquo , its sorted , since the second line has been ruled out it must be the first , its obvious:laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4:

Well a slightly dissapointing response , I had thought that the news story had the potential for some interesting debate , and it offered many different avenues to explore from a single article . It could have fitted into several existing topics but I thought that as it contained elements of them all and more besides it would stand alone and take whatever direction people wanted it to take
But perhaps the problem is that someone warned of a minefield in post #3 and no one wants to enter a minefield unless they know where and what the mines are .
I am not surprised that people couldn't identify the hazard , even after it had been narrowed down by excluding the "any thoughts?" line .
It really was a perplexing puzzle , it should have been easy to see since it was described as "obvious" , but apparently it is quite hard to spot ......unless of course you work on the assumtion that the opening post of the topic is written by someone who is stupid , really really stupid , and also suffering from depression due to all the years they spent as a ......wait for it .....it really is a classic..........terrorist:laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4: :laugh4:
The minefield apperently is that the topic is aimed at trolling against any religeous belief
Oh most definitily - its a trolling statement directed at anyone with religous belief. .......... the statement in itself smacks of hate for anything religous.
Now since Fisherking made a suggestion of a prayer for understanding , might I ask all those who pray to say a quick one for Redleg .
