No, nothing to do with pirates - just thought the title was cool :) - but rather, the sea.
When I load a RTWV/BI/EB game, the campaign map's sea is fine, but after entering and ending a battle, the sea south of a certain line (different for different games I think) becomes black: i.e. its texture disappears.
Any fixes for this? Thanks! :)

Most likely fix:
1) go to somewhere else, not you in real life, but on the campaign map
2) get back
3) and see, the texture is fixed now...
Or at least that's how all my RTW map texture problems went away.

If you mean move the camera around, that doesn't work; moving units doesn't seem to work either :(

And what happens if you save your game, an load your game? Say you had a "KH" save, you're playing through a battle and afterwards you save it as "KH", and then load the game called "KH"? Other possible fix, perhaps better to try this first, is to continue playing anyway, and hope the end turn sorts it all out for you.

Turns don't affect it I'm afraid - it seems to get stuck like that until I load again (usually, closing the exe and opening again, and then loading changes it back - normal reloading doesn't AFAIK).

Quitting to main menu, and reloading, perhaps?

Er might do, but is this an in-built bug that can't be changed or do you know of any fix?

Well, judging by the things you wrote, I'd say it's your PC. When I play RTW I sometimes encounter such troubles (though they disappear without me having to do anything apart from moving the camera around the world a bit), but I recall that with my previous PC I had much more of this, and much more "serious" stuff as well. So, that's why I'd say: PC.
I had a similiar problem like this once, in which the sea became all back with green artifacts mixed in. I found out it was because my video card sucked at handling any kind of shaders. Also that I had OCed my video card too high as it was causing the green artifacts along with the shading problem.

OCed? What does that mean?
And as I'm on the subject, what is/are CTDs? Any other abbreviations I should be aware of? And is there a glossary anywhere on this site?
OCed is overclocked and it has nothing to do with EB in particular. CTD is Crash To Desktop, and MIC is Military Industrial Complex I included the last because it took me awhile to decipher it when I joined.
Your problem is probably related to your video drivers or video card.
I only get the black stuff when I turn fow off, after loading with it on.
