What is in there? Why is it private?

Hi Xehh II,
The Backroom is the place of evil and political debate in the .Org. The home of everything with a dark and gloomy twist to it, from genital mutilation stories to complaints about the presidential elections.

If you wish to enter it's halls, go here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/profile.php?do=editusergroups) and select to join the Backroom. Hope this helps, cheers!

The main reason it's private, I guess, is that the Org doesn't wish to submit new members to potential disgust, and eventual mental trauma.
Coming out of there alive and unharmed has 100 to 1 odds.

LOL, when did the Backroom become an opt-in forum? I never noticed that change. Of course, I rarely enter the place... :eeeek:

What do all the other groups do?

A few months ago, they added the Backroom group. This allows a user to opt-out if desired. I think it also allows Mods to ban members from the Backroom while allowing access to other fora. This may have come about when much of the forum was opened to Junior Members, they are still not allowed in the Backroom.

Hi again,

What do all the other groups do?The other groups open access to other hidden forums where mod teams work and other such private groups other such things. For example the group "Gahzette" enables a user to see and post in the Gahzette development forum. The group "EB" allows users to see the EB private developer forums.

Hello TinCow,

Some months ago. The new situation was explained in this forum and all of the then current members were given membership.

It's opt-in for new members. One can throw away access (UserCP) and also remove the Backroom completely from the list (UserCP).

I don't see what the big fuss is about the backroom - i find it to be an intellectually-stimulating and educated forum full of nice people.

Wait, no, i'm thinking of the Babe Thread.

We just like to make fun of ourselves. The functions associated with it in the UserCP I think is useful to some users who have an aversion to politics in general when they are in the org -- a perfectly understandable position -- and wish to remove the politics forum, the Backroom that is, from "sight."

...well, maybe it's not all false. I have to concede that genital mutilation is an integral part of the amazingly disturbing News of the Weird thread.

Not that bad, it's when it starts to be News of the Normal it becomes truly disturbing. ~;)
