I patched RTW to the current build and installed EB. However, whenever I try to open EB, a small RTW graphic comes onscreen and promptly disappears after about 5 seconds. Nothing else happens after that. I've read through many other threads in the technical help area and haven't spotted a problem similar to this yet.

You are certain that you installed EB into the same directory as RTW, and you are using the shortcut placed on your desktop by your installer?

Yep!

Uninstall EB and then uninstall RTW and try from the beginning.

Install RTW and patch up to 1.5 and then check that vanilla RTW is working. Once you've tested that (no need to go into a campaign), install EB. Make sure that it is installed to the main Rome folder, ie the one with the RomeTW.exe in it (default name is "Rome - Total War"). Also make sure that your windows username does not contain any non-standard latin characters, this includes letters with accents. This often causes the installation of EB to fail half-way through. If you do have a non-standard character in your windows username, create a new admin account and give it a simple name. Install through that username and then delete the account when you have finished. You won't have a shortcut on your desktop so to create a new one, create a shortcut for the RomeTW.exe file. Open the properties window for it and add the following to the end of the target line, after the quotation marks.

-mod:eb -nm -show_err

When you start it up with this shortcut you should have a flashscreen saying Europa Barbarorum, not Rome Total War.

Unfortunately I won't be able to try that because I've lost the last two of my RTW discs. Thanks anyways!

I found the discs I need to re-install RTW and did so, following your directions, Foot. My Windows username is simply "Administrator" so I didn't need to create a new account. However, EB behaved exactly the same way when I tried to open it (RTW graphic for a few seconds, then nothing). Any other suggestions?

A couple of random questions/ suggestions:
1) What are your PC's specs? I mean, things could take a while...
2) Suppose that's not it, what happens if you try to run the taskmanger? The information you should be looking for can be found by left clicking the "Performance" Tab, and then looking at the CPU stats (the graphic) and the memory stats. The *incomprehensible* (depends on who you are) numbers below. Now the only thing you'd need to know is this: do these numbers remain more or less constant?
3) Ever tried to start EB (make sure you have sound turned on), and then doing something like homework (provided that you don't need the PC to do your homework like thing)? You could keep the Taskmanger running in the background as well: this way you can combine 2) and 3).

2.8 Ghz processor, 1 GB RAM. When I open the task manager after opening EB, it doesn't say anything related to EB or RTW.
