I think I brought this up during 1.0 times but eventually I stopped noticing it. However, I was running a few custom games the other day because I was experimenting with the projectile file and several parameters in it.

So what I found kind of funny/buggy was that my 2 crews of monster bombards (note crew not artillery itself) who had missed the 4 units of enemy spear militia easily defeated them.
Not defeating them in combat really though, but this is what happened:

The bombards miss the militia twice each on the Arsuf map before militia charged at them. The moment the militia engaged the bombard crew, their morale went from Eager down to Steady and eventually Shaken. Even though my bombards were dying much faster and not doing many casualties, the militia eventually all routed for some weird reason or another.

So I wonder whether fighting an artillery crew somehow imposes a morale penalty as large as being hit by the artilley weapon itself? It certainly shouldn't be that way, so this is more or less a "share your observations" topic.

I've always found artillery crews difficult to kill for some reason, unless the battle is heavily in my favour and they have a morale penalty (I have a high dread general or their general is dead + units routing etc).

artillery and gunpowder causes fear whether it is firing or not i think. also i hope v1.2 will take units such as artillery, archers and peasants down a notch after the shield fix since there have been good reviews on the leaked version.

Artillery crews are more buffed than they probably should be. They have a ridiculously high morale (9) and fairly good combat stats for only possessing a knife.

It's entirely possible this is because there are so few of them. If they had lower stats/morale they may well rout after only one or two showers of arrows for instance.

I usually send flanking horses to attack artillery crews and I can't say that they have particular problems chewing them up.
