a good read.
:help:
Been thinking of picking up a copy of The Histories or or Caesar's Commentaries however I'm not sure what a good translation is. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi PigLatin,
May I suggest that you try this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=70698) - it's probabaly the most comprehensive EB booklist around and, I think, the EB team have used some of those books for their reasearch. Hope it helps, cheers!

You might also want to check this (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=77252) thread out.
Might be some books in there EB hasn't used.
And, I don't recommend Conn Iggulden's Emperor series, especially if you're concerned with historical accuracy.

If you're looking for novels that aren't so dense and are prett entertaining... Alexander the Great & Gates of Fire by Steven Pressfield, worth it :)

I enjoyed this series and would recommend it for entertainment, but not for historical accuracy. However, the author does always add a historical note in the back explaining what he changed and recommending historical books if you want to learn more. If all you are looking for is a good read then definently think about picking this series up.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, much appreciated. I'm leaning more toward the historical side of things and will let you know what I decide on.
Zack, already read it, fantastic work.

If you want to read any ancient text I recommend to buy a bilingual edition with the original text and translation inside.
Even if you don't know much about latin or greek you will loose a lot of information if you can't cross check the translation with the words used in the original.
Try Epic of Gilgamesh. A very lynchian read...
