Maybe this should be changed? Not sure how but the one we got suc's.
Not having a dig.But once u reach the top u dont have to ply to stay there? So once u get decent honor u can just stay in the top 100.

If u put it this way, Maggy plays the most games online and yes he's a vet with great skill. So he could if wanted make 100 names and send 90% of them into the top 100 as could many other vets.Surely some other rules must apply here?
Get in the top ten and not ply in that name anymore so u dont lose honor,i think is all wrong.
U should lose honor if u dont ply?

hmm 100 names... good idea, i will pass this on and u will be rewarded http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

i remember that we had a discussion with developers that something would be implemented like losing points after a period of inactivity.

Makes very good sense to me.I wonder if we had some kind of vote on this?To see what the current Shogun plyers feel about this?
Well my vote is yes! Change it http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Yes or no will do http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

losing the points is a great idea. currently, if you beat someone 30 battles ago who had honour 150, you might not want to play them again because you would have to play and beat someone of honour 151 to go up. and its to complicated for most people

The worst part of it is the ability of cheaters to quit the game in such a way as to gain the victory.

This is highly annoying and probably has a great deal to do with the recent change in the online culture.

Yeah I like the idea. Maybe one battle per week would be required? So if you donĀ“t play the battle in the week the server takes the points of the 1/30 game in your result list and gives you 100 points instead. So everybody would return to 100 honor points after 30 weeks.

Yeah, good idea. This would surely help me to regain my lost honour http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

... seriously, what if there would be two kinds of ladder. The first is a kind of Hall of Fame, best players ever; and the second is the current ladder in which only those would be listed who play at least 1 comp game/week.

Ceetah,a good idea..........A list of the top 10 highest ever honor list.
And also current top 100 active plyers list.
Anymore suggestion on this would be more than welcome???

Gah. Goldfish says drop the ranking system. Just keep track of the stats:

1. Games played
2. Total wins
3. Total loss
4. Total kills
5. Total death
6. Ave kills per game
7. Ave death per game

And we can sort them based on any of these.

See, even the most loss getta go to top 100.

a ratio of wins and losses, but thats sort of what MI has, it's not a bad system, if only people understood it and didn't abuse it...

ratio of wins to losses would do for me :/

The Honour table does need to be updated. The best thing I think is the suggestion of losing points for not playing. But no points should be lost until a fortnight of inactivity or do none of you guys ever go on holiday/vacation?? Would be a bummer to get to No.1 then go on holiday and when you come back you find that you are now in 100th place?
It would also decrease the amount of "unknown player names" around because people would be eager to keep their top ranked name as high as they can.
For anyone to sit on top of the ladder and bask in the glory isnt much fun and its stagnant, and that is the fault of the system not the player.

A way of losing points would definatley liven the ladder and the foyers up a bit I think.

i agree, nothing else is wrong with the system really. The last 30 battle average is quite good, but needs to explanations in manuals...

well, the easiest way to do it would be to average the games over time, not over number of games played. best player in the last 5 days. best player in the last 10 days; best player in the last month. this, instead of best player of the last 30 games played.

Kraellin that would mean, that if I played only two battles and won both, I had a higher rank than a guy with 10 wins and one loss, because I had 100% victories -> so I won't play for some days and I am the best one for a short time. Or did I misundestand you? Plz correct me if I am wrong.

i think he still means using an average, which means however many games you play, its still fair.

well, i'm making a web based ladder system. it will be fully automated. only need the loser (or winner?) to report the match. i can put up a clan ladder in about 2 weeks. i will post a rough idea in the clan forum when the coding is done.

hmm...game ladders are always very tricky, I don't think there is any vet out there who hasn't fired up excel (or access if they were feeling special) and had a go at a fair ranking system...its not as easy as it looks, a good ranking system should...

a) not let newbie players shoot up through the ranks by a lucky win

b) recognise when the newbie has proven that the wins aren't luck and reward him

c) not allow players to 'cheat' their way to the top

d) not allow players to be at the top by virtue of games played and so give anyone a theoretical 'fighting chance'

name a system that attempts to do all those four things...

exactly - the S:TW ranking system

now because we have that we have another gripe - players who get to the top stay at the top forever because whoever they play they lose honour so they just switch names. A way around that (I think) is to have a ratings system with a theoretical maximum honour (say 1000) and push into that system the Shogun '30 games' method...or possibly increase that to 100 for a 'veterans ladder' which takes into account more long term gameplay

now, this way we have a ceiling so it is impossible for players to get 'out of reach' add to that a system whereby we all start from 0 without playing games and set it so net gain/loss for any winning honour change is +1

now comes the real point of what I am saying, only measure games that have taken place in the past day, week, month, 3 month, 'for ever' period and so a name can be on top of one list and nowhere on another one - this way we don't arbitarily deduct score but the system has a way of taking it into account, players fall down the 'weekly table' if they stop playing...

Hell, we could also have a 'last 20 games' table for people who don't play so often but it wouldn't be the major drive as this current table is...
