View Full Version : Beta Testers Needed

Haven't needed any for a little while now, but it's back to the point where we need a few new testers. We have had a new internal build for a while, but it's not getting the testing that it needs, and we have some specific tests we need run also. So, what would it take to be a beta tester for us?

-First you'd need some time on your hands. Not loads of it, but that doesn't hurt either, but enough to get a good dose of testing done every couple of days maybe.
-New players to RTW need not put themselves up to this, and new players to EB probably shouldn't either, as we need people who have a basic understanding of the mod at least. Seeing lots of problems where there really aren't problems is a hassle for us to explain after all.
-Another thing that we would prefer is if we sort of know you already, at least a little bit from being around the fora. Our first beta test experience famously failed as one of the testers leaked the build directly to other mods, and we definitely want control over who the testers are and we'd feel better about it if we knew you a little, or you've had a track record posting here or at TWC. There are a lot of new things that are added in the new build, and we need people who are going to keep their mouths shut about the new features for sure. So for us to understand the chances for this, be ready to tell us a little bit about yourself also (not in the first post really, unless you think it helps you a lot given things like a college major in one of these areas the mod deals with or other skills in modding and such, but we'll ask you in follow up PM's if we are interested).
-Finally, being really really interested in the mod certainly helps. The beta testers have also been a big source of new EB members over the last couple of years, but that is not to be expected for sure. Some of our last group of testers were so good at solving problems and finding bugs that we brought them onto the team just for that purpose - to help out on the fora answering questions and to keep working on bugs (it helped a lot that they didn't just tell us "there's a bug here", but they pointed out often what code part had a problem and helped find solutions).

That's all I can think of right now. We aren't sure how many folks we need, but I know there is a need right now and we don't have an active beta testing team currently either, so I'm trying to resolve the situation here. Who thinks they have what it takes?

I've got the time *normally at least 2 hours at day, sometimes up to 8-9.* I've done more little changes to my own build then I can count, and have a basic knowedge of how it all works. I used to beta test for N2TW, so I've done this before. I am definitely interested in the mod, and willing to help out any way I can.

I would like to participate. I Don't have any previous beta tester experience, but we've all got to start somewhere right? I have plenty of free time (4 hours usually per day) EB is a mod that Really grabs my attention, and it would be awesome if i could do anything to help, and beta testing is probably the best thing i could ask for.

I do not have beta-tester experience in RTW, but as Mastaspoofa wrote, we all have to start somewhere. I've been adding a lot of things to my EDU and EDB, filling up recruitment holes that I found annoying, editing unit stats etc.
I have quite some time, at least 3 hours a day, and a lot of time on the weekends. I think that this mod is one of the best, if not the best one.
I think of myself as trustworthy, and i would be pleased to keep a secret.
(I'm not native English, I hope that "I would be pleased to keep a secret" means "I'm that kind of person who can keep a secret")

I'll help if needed. I havent been very active on these forums as I generally dont post unless someone or something is really grinding my gears. I'll have plenty of time (about 8 hours a day) up until july (archaeology 'season' starts again). Haven't had any experience beta testing for RTW, but have for other games.

I would like to help, but I have no free time during the week. Actually it's been two weeks since I last played EB. Plus, I would be no good in solving any problems, just pointing them out. At least I have excuses. ~

Dear sirs,

I certainly would enjoy beta testing. I've alpha and beta tested several games, and I would love to form part of the team. I will do what is asked of me, and help make EB even better than it is.

Let me know if you need me, I have about 12 hours a week I can dedicate to testing.

My best,

Brightblade

I'm willing to help. Got some free time on my hands for a while. I've been customizing my build of EB for a while so I know pretty much what goes where.

I am willing to beta test. I dont know how much time in a week I can test. But I have atleast some time to test it.
I have been around this forum since EBs early days. I have never beta test before but Iam willing to learn.
Cheers

I'm willing to beta test the next version of EB.
I haven't done any real beta-testing before (I was supposed to be on the 77BC beta-test team, but I couldn't because of time-managing difficulties then), but I'm ready to do my best, and to play turn after turn of a Romani campaign to find every possible difficulty.

I can get an hour done each day, generally, two or three on wednesday and friday afternoons, and a day (at least) on the week-end, so time isn't necesarily an issue. I'd post if I wasn't able to report for a couple of days (or more).

I've been playing Rome for about a year and a half, and more seriously EB since Christmas. I play campaigns on VH/M, if that has any influence. If I found a problem, something I believed to be a bug of somekind, first I would check it hadn't been showed before. Of course, specific year CTDs would be examined before and I'd send a savegame to the man in charge of beta-testing.

I know I'd keep the secret of the new features, because I wouldn't want to be hated by the whole EB team (which I believe is already considerable) and be generally seen as a guy who can't be trusted in.

If you need anything more, just ask. I'm still a student, and am very interested in the period covered by EB. Also, I believe EB is close to perfection, so I'd do my best to help.

A lot of good people have replied here. It is unfortunate that we don't need very many. I'm shutting this thread to keep the list from expanding at this point. I'll notify everyone when we make a final decision. Thanks guys. Sorry some of you will have to be disappointed here.
