I don't want turn down speech altogether but having a prolonged missile shootout between 2 armies (which i usually starts any battle) drives me nuts now. My lord!!! Our troops are under fire!!! every 10 seconds... GRRRRR... OMG... Thanks sport for telling me, they are called missile troops for a reason....I better just surrender then.

This is weird. I had what you describe in the leaked 1.2 but in the official one I havent heard the "Our troops are taking fire, we need to act", once.
They probably realised how irritating it is! Damn backseat driver advisor

the problem is not that they say it the problem is they repeat it again and again.
We need to act... We need to act...

Turn down the voice volume?

Yes, extremely annoying, isn't he, in a doom-mongering sort of Alan Green(super negative Northern Irish football commentator) way? And he's still in the official patch!
While defending Pamplona, outnumbered 3 to 1, he wouldn't stop wailing about needing a divine miracle or something to save us. What he obviously didn't know, but I - and possibly God - did, is that the Artificial Idiocy isn't much better in 1.2 than it was in previous versions. the Portuguese knocked down the gate, annihilated my billmen, (worse than useless troops early on) then proceeded to ignore the easy way in favour of all going up the one set of ladders to where my only remaining non-missile unit of DEKs were more than happy to give them a good kicking.
Result: Heroic Victory and blessed silence from Green's medieval counterpart:beam:
What do you mean this happened in the leaked 1.2?
I hopefully installed the official version and I get that irritating voice every two minutes! I think I'll have a hunt around the sound files and delete his ass.

Yep, for some reason it wasn't happening in custom battles yesterday for me but today its back to happening all the time.

Just tried a quick single battle with archers vs archers and sure enough he must have said that line like 10 tens during the shootout... I wonder what the trigger is??

turn off advice....
turn off advice....
In my case, advice is off, I think
'advisor_verbosity = 0'
If you are referring to turning off the advisor helper in the campaign screen that will not work. That disables Mr. and Mrs. floating babble head, not the in-battle commentary.

You could just turn off the speech part in the little bobblehead circlescreen interface thingy. I think that should stop the commentry but I haven't tried it yet.

Yes but it disables all the speech in the game even agents and so on. I reinstalled but he's still nagging me so it's not that
It was possible to remove the commentator in RTW, played several mods that didn't have the commentator. (that voice was so annoying, way worse than the one in MTW2  )
No idea how to remove it though :sweatdrop:
Lucky for me I can easily deal with the man next to me proclaiming over and over that I am losing the battle or we are winning the battle. It has never really annoyed me. Often during misinforming times it makes me chuckle.

Steps to disable commentator:
1) walk up to commentator
2) draw freakishly massive sword
3) hack commentator to bits
4) laugh
5) find a pub
Well if I ever find the chap who decided on this....
Load up battle with faction leader on his own, haven't even pressed 'start battle' (reinforcements are due) and what does this pillock say?
"We are loozing zis Battle... WE NEED TO ACT NOW!" or "CHANGE TACTICS!"
Haven't even pressed start.... Do it... cue re-enforcements....
"Zis Battle iz taking a turn for ze Empire...!"
Yes... I know. THAT'S BECAUSE I ORGANISED THE RE-ENFORCEMENTS YOU SNIFFLING WEASEL!
Also things like "WE NEED TO CHANGE OUR TACTICS!"
Nope, this is the plan dummy. I was kicking ass in this game when it first came out. That was six months ago... so I think your advice counts for squat now.
And yes, finally.... "Our troops are taking fire, We need to act!"
Odd that for missiles to cause casualties:wall: . What part of the flanking manoeuvre where you not watching?
I hate this feature more than Milan, France and the Papacy. That to me is A LOT. 6 months I've been playing this game and like 95% of people on this forum I think we have an idea how to fight a Total War(TM) battle. It is now a pointless addition that should have had an option to be muted or him hanged in the capital's square for cowardice or for just being annoying.... I'd much rather of had an option to organise my re-enforcements.:inquisitive:
I know that over at the TWCENTER this has turned into a debate!

It seems to me it's the case of those silly upgrade stars (ala Sonic the Hedgehog) that we got with RTW 1.3 all over again...Only with sporty twist. I'd prefer a horse racing commentator then. I am waiting for him to say "Mein Kaizer did you pre-order your copy of Kingdoms yet?"
