View Full Version : returning to RTW, how to extend BI campaign?

Hey, I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired of MTW2, so last night I actually returned to RTW and started a campaign as Britainia.

Anyhow, I'm waiting for that one LOTR mod, and also feel like playing some more BI...

Here's my question: What do I mod so I can play BI to my specified number of conquered territories? (ie, beyond just 15)
For example, say I want to play as the Celts, but want the game go until someone reaches 30 territories?

I'm sure this is a common question, but didn't see any threads or FAQs on it.

THANKS!

Hi KuriousJorj,
Yep, it's moddable, and it's nice and easy too! Simply enter either "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\BI\data\world\maps\campaign\barbarian_invasion\descr_win_conditions.txt", should you own Gold, or "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\BI\data\world\maps\campaign\barbarian_invasion\descr_win_conditions.txt" if you don't!

Once you are in the almighty modding file, find the faction that you want to change, and set the number of settlements in the "take_regions" section to your custom settings. Save the file, start up BI, and you can now enjoy your new victory conditions!

Hope this helps, good luck, cheers!

Why dont you continue to play the BI campaign after the normal victory condition has been achieved?

BI is the same as in regular RTW...just say 'yes' to continue the campaign on the victory movie screen.

I set my own victory condition as Celts...to destroy the WRE. Sure enough the normal Celt campaign ended at 16 turns (no celt victory movie). Went onto own 26 regions before I got the WRE faction destroyed message which was my signal for campaign end.

Enjoy.

(Early RTW versions didnt have this continue...it was introduced in a patch)

Hey, thanks for the info!!!

Why I don't keep playing-- I don't always win:shame: ! I'm completely an 'empire builder' as opposed to a 'rusher,' which I utterly hate in ALL games...
...so the last time I played as the Celts, I actually lost to the Sassanids, who start with such an easy path to victory, especially against slow builders like me!

In fact, to this day, I still haven't even played with all the factions in the original RTW, in part because when I do play as a faction, I usually play really long and take my time.

Hi KuriousJorj,
Do you want to extend the BI campaign length too, this will provide you with more time to reach your victory conditions, if you often lose because of time restraints, it is often a good idea, especially if you aren't a blitzkreig sort of player! It's quite a nice and simple process which can be done by entering your, if you have Gold, "C:\Program Files\The Creative Assembly\Rome - Total War\BI\data\maps\campaign\barbarian_invasion\descr_strat.txt" or, if you have non-Gold, "C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War\BI\data\maps\campaign\barbarian_invasion\descr_strat.txt". All you have to do is change the "end_date" line to whatever you want it to be. I prefer to play to the year two-thousand and seven although you can play to whatever level you like.

2007 lets hope it won't take that long to control the world!!

I'm also a slow player who likes to build and manage everything, two quick points, I'm aware of the change end date to extend the game but how hard is it to make the game have four turns (seasons) per year? It would mean two summers/winters but would give the four season feel.

Also the rebel spawn rate is set to 10 or something like that, if I put 5 will this half the spawn rate in games?

Many thanks....

Hi Third spearman from the left,

...but how hard is it to make the game have four turns (seasons) per yearIt's pretty simple, this brilliant modification (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/local_links.php?action=jump&id=163&catid=97) is all you need, and, even better, it's save game compatable (although the date will be messed up in old games).
Also the rebel spawn rate is set to 10 or something like that, if I put 5 will this half the spawn rate in games?I'm sorry to say that I'm not too sure, yet I think that it's the opposite, the higher the number the less pesky brigands you have wandering around irritating your forces and devastating your trade and looting your farm land! However, again, I'm, sadly, not too sure, my humble knowledge of R:TW only extends to losing battles :stupido3:, so it may be a good idea to wait for somebody with some modding knowledge to confirm my, probably inaccurate, presumption.

Sorry I cannot be too sure, hope this helps you, cheers!
