View Full Version : Getting logged out

I've noticed recently that I am sometimes getting logged out when I switch between forums, threads, etc. Has anything changed in the last couple of weeks? Nothing has changed my side that I'm aware of.
I am using Opera (latest)
Win XP Pro (up to date)
Zone Alarm Pro
AVG anti-virus
Hello Dol Goldur,
No changes there or related.
I don't have that problem either.
It sounds as if your cookies (being logged in installs a cookie) get deleted.

Make sure the "Remember me" box is still checked when you log in, otherwise it'll log you out automatically after a certain time.

I'll delete my cookies and start afresh - but nothing has changed here and i never had this problem up until now (though I may have had it either here or some other forum for a while a year or so ago when something had changed on the forums).
I am always logged in when I return to the site and always have the 'remember me' on on those rare occasions I seem to have been genuinely logged out. It's just when I switch to a subforum - if I switch to another I am logged in again with no need for me to actually do it manually.
I can live with it. What's more annoying is that saving an edited post just will not work in Opera for some reason and I have to switch to IE to do it. Opera has a number of glitches like that - but I like the tabs too much ;)
Thx. for your help.
Gedeelde smart is halve smart.
I often have to use different browsers to accomplish tasks. Sometimes I need IE because some webbased mail/intranet 'insists' on that. Sometimes I have to use FireFox or Opera because IE refuses to display content. For some weird reason my IE never works longer than say two weeks with Java.
Did the fresh start fix the login trouble Dol Guldur?

Odd. I also use Opera, but have never had any issues with being logged out, nor any issues with saving edited posts. Maybe the problem is on your end?

Maybe it is - but my settings are all default afaik. What did you change with Opera to make editing work? Or has it always worked? Maybe it is my firewall but I've already lowered the settings to get images to display at some forums.

Well if you post a half finished post, we'll know why.
DOes it happen when you post a post?

No, just switches between logged in and not logged in when I navigate up and down forums.
EDIT: Example, I can navigate here without any problems but if I were to click the 'last post' column to take the 'shortcut' route then I am logged out on this thread. dang it, I needed to go into IE to put this edit in :(
EDIT: No, the cookies thing did not work
EDIT: And it does not happen in IE so it is definitely one of those Opera glitches - glitches which sometimes do not exist I might add. I think Opera acts differently with sites according to which tab the site is in - that seems one possibility anyway.

Curious. Like you, I also you Opera, but I don't have the the problems you have.
An idea: go to tools/quick preferences (or hit F12) and then Site Preferences. Do you have anything under the cookies tab(*)? Also, how is Opera identifying itself to the board (under the Network tab)?
(*) I've got:
vbglastvisit
vbglastactivity
vbguserid
vbgpassword
vbgsessionhash
vbulletin_collapse

Mine is also default. I'd recommend listening to therother, seems to know what should be done.
At least i hope you do. Do you?

I have all those except the vbulletin_collapse one.
The network is set to id as an opera browser and all checkboxes are ticked.
I assume this default as I have not touched it.

I have the same Anti-viruses as you, and my problem that I had a while back was that I had not allowed Third Party cookies. It caused problems very similar to yours. I changed this and it works.

I have the avg free edition (came with pc) and cannot see any settings related to cookies. My paid-for Zone Alarm Pro is set to allow cookies already.

I have all those except the vbulletin_collapse one.Hmm, that is strange, as you have all the required cookies (*). Could you see if these cookies are still there when you are logged out?
(*) The vbulletin_collapse one is just to tell the board to collapse the Posting Rules and Quick Reply boxes, and so shouldn't have any impact on you being logged in or not.

When I log out only the vbgsessionhash one remains.

Well, this is all very strange. ~
BTW, is that all that remains after you log out manually, or after the board seems to do it of its own accord?
