Second quarter 2008, not 2009 (that's the financial year they expect sales revenue to fall into).
But yeah, a bummer.

EA also reported that its net revenue for fiscal 2007 was a mighty $3.091 billion - up five percent on the previous year - and gross profits weighed in at $1.879 billion. What!? ~
I'm in the wrong business...
Also, may I congratulate you on the colourfulness of your post, Abokasee? It has an aesthetic quality all of its own.

Of course "gross profit" isn't a very meaningful number for a software company... ~:)
For [beep] SAKE, EA should be sued for this... in the words of Samuel L Jackson...
"Someone get this [beep] Company away from our [beep] Game Developers"
EDIT: Language. Swear words must be blotted out fully.

Dare I say it?
Duke Nukem Forever.
Annoucment for its realease date will take for ever... Spore better have barely any bugs, that would be a first for EA
Hadn't even heard of the damn game, but now that I read about it it seems like a damn good one. I'd get it for the DS, if there were a version for it.

OMFG HOW DAR THY PUT BAK RELES DAT SO THT GAM WONT BE FUL OF BUGS. AL THY THNK ABOT IS MONIES.
Get off your high horse, you EA bashers. Admittedly they aren't the greatest publishers in the world, but they aren't purely concerned about profit. Remember, ultra-capitalism won't be around for a few years yet.

How many game companies have EA bought out (Cries that he could not do anything to prevent Westwood from its fate...) Petroglyph proberly won't be bought out anytime soon, especially the fact it was made up mainly from the orginal westwood team and it's vast (well from what I seen) sucess with Star Wars Empire at War, also Universe at war looks amazing

I don't see why a delay is such a big deal. This is the most ambitious game concept I've heard about in the last few years. It could either be a total flop and fail to live up to expectations, or it could be one of the coolest games ever produced. It could also be a bug farm that "sorta" works, and I'm getting really tired of those. If it takes another year or two to do it right, that's fine by me.
Yeah, EA earned it's bad rep. Some suggest they've turned things around, but I don't know one way or another.
As for spore, I see no reason to blame EA specifically for the delays just yet. AFAIK, it could easily be Mr. Wright sayings it's not ready yet.
I honestly don't see why, the graphics don't look that far over Oblivion, and in that big video they had it looked like most of the engine was working, unless there was problems making transitions, mainly the 2-d cell to 3d water enviroments; unless the team saw some unforeseen problem with the engine...
Unless there just throwing more money at the BF series, or another CnC game/expansion; or the chairman needs a new Porsche cause his current one has the wrong wheel rims.

I warned against EA games!
Far from DNF syndrome, I see a delay for Spore as a good thing. I'm looking forward to the game as much as the next person, but all the videos I have seen of it so far have me a bit concerned. The concept is fascinating, but I'm worried that there won't be much of a 'game' in the game. Building a 'sandbox' game is nice, but there's got to be some structured entertainment value in the thing. Spore is so different from every other sandbox game that I think it faces the very real danger of not being very entertaining. I would prefer that they spend more time on the game and make it something superbly revolutionary, like SimCity, rather than release it now and make it something superbly disappointing, like Black and White.

I beg to disagree with that - Black and White 1 was a good game in my opinion, Black and White 2 was terrible though. They made so many promises and spent so many years, only for it be very disappointing. I lost my trust in game producers after that.
