View Full Version : ign preview
Konnichiwa,
I've just read this preview http://pc.ign.com/previews/17257.html
Oh boy... oh yes... must have, wanna play. I might have missed something before, but I guess this is the most informative preview about MTW ever (for me).
Oh yes.
I'm already dreaming about an expansion pack: MTW: Sengoku Jidai.

I also love Total War and cant wait until it comes out.
Until then, I'll just keep doing my web site and play civ III and Europa Universallis 2
I'm looking forward to it. It'll be great. The new campaigns will be a lot of fun.

Yes Yes Yes - If there are some soldiers guarding a bridge and your troops run into them, instead of all the units stopping and trying to fight the same guys, those enemies will be engaged and the extra troops will run around them to their destination so that the flow of traffic continues much smoother. One more interesting addition is a rethinking of the rally troops feature. It's possible to rally troops that are fleeing still, but instead of just issuing an order once they've run a certain distance, you'll need to have your general in the vicinity to give each of the units confidence enough to regroup and ready for another attack or defense.
And this idea is magnificent - You can even capture units on the battlefield, including lords and kings, and ransom them off if you need some quick cash.
And this too is very ingenuitive of CA - Finally, one of the last and most interesting enhancements comes in the form of an RPGish element that has to do with your king. Your king has a set of attributes in the game governing his strength, economic savvy, piety, dread, and the like. These all will reflect on how your subjects act towards you. These attributes are gained through your own decisions throughout the game. So if you go into battle and massacre everyone on the field showing no mercy, your dread rating will actually go up and your people will be loyal out of fear. If you build churches and are generally a nice guys that shows mercy, your piety rating will go up and you'll be loved all around. If you take your king into battle and have him fight among the troops, he will be viewed as strong and bold giving the troops bonuses when he is around. If you keep your king out of the battles on the sidelines with a pair of opera glasses to watch the action, the people are going to think he is weak and unwilling to die for them making them less likely to be as bold themselves.
All of these attributes will effect your kingdom. If you rule with an iron fist and have a huge dread rating, chances are your troops will fight for you and your people will settle. But if your king goes too far away and leave the people alone for a while without his "guidance", then you know the old adage, "when the cat's away, the mice will play." You could have a full-scale revolt on your hands. But at the same time, it's much harder to be pious than it is to be dreadful.
Iam definately buying this game.

well, i told ya all along this is going to be stw meets europa universalis. sounds good :)
not sure i like this one though: 'It's possible to rally troops that are fleeing still, but instead of just issuing an order once they've run a certain distance, you'll need to have your general in the vicinity to give each of the units confidence enough to regroup and ready for another attack or defense.' sounds like a lot more micro-management and clicking and running helter skelter all over the map. why shld only the general be the one to rally other men? the rest of it looked pretty good though.

Yeah they have all been drugged and fallen asleep and only the Prince from the far away land can save them with a kiss.
I am not high by the way! It's just what came into my head.
The thing I like most is the 400 maps there are to choose from. MP is gonna be fun with people playing on maps they have never heard of but have anyway. (We better not get people producing ironing boards.:mad http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Kuma games always come out at there announcement with quite a bit of media activity and then go quiet for a while until they are getting close to finishing and then they ramp it up again to get people interested again. I think if they kept it up the whole way thru then peopel would just get sick of the game.

that panorimage(sp?) was quite nice. the three lions were there. the dark blue was french i think. the light blue holy roman empire (germany). the yellow and black prussia. the yellow and red i couldn't make out nor could i make out the greens.
any thoughts on whether i am right or wrong (especially germany, prussia and austria could be quite similar)
