We just experienced a server down weekend. we had this 1 year ago more often. But what if this game migrates to gamespy?

what i dislike about gamespy is that -for most- games when u join or host one, it starts the game and after someluck u have a game. it seems to me this is for all games a different procedure, timeconsuming and cumberfull. now a battle can take 5-15 minutes. what if the launching of the game takes also 5 minutes?

I remember old posts that we need more/different servers and so on but i wonder if it will be really bettter. What i hope is that if it will be gamespy that there will be a fast procedure to launch a game. can the foyer and the game be embedded in one envirronment as we have now?

I would like them to use the same server system. But l would like them to have a service so that users can add their own servers on http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
That would rock.

What is this "gamespy" thing you talk of?

There is no game but Total War, and EA is its prophet.

All else is heresy.

Just make EA servers more reliable... use a farm, not one... redundant... in a bomb-proof underground bunker with a dedicated subterranean power plant and a garrison of 250 armed guards... blah blah blah...

I don't expect them to run a T3 to the home of each player for free so that they could enjoy the game more... but it WOULD be nice... http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/eek.gif

magy,

frankly, i'd hate to see it on gamespy for one reason. their download system sucks rocks. that's the most confusing, exasperating download system i've ever encountered. getting patches and so on would be a pain in the proverbial arse. if i can download a file at 4K/s somewhere else, i'd prefer it over whatever gamespy can provide. i just hate that system they use there.

i'm also not thrilled by their tons of advertising, but i could live with that if their download system were better.

the up side to gamespy is that M:TW would prolly get more exposure and thus we'd have potentially more players.

my biggest hope, however, is that they include direct ip this time. and even better would be if they included the hooks for hosting the game from a personal web site. we could just set up our own servers on your site or the .org or whatever. i know this would tend to disperse out the meeting places, but we could make a list of who has a server site and post it. clan wars would take on a whole new meaning. wanna fight the germans? go to the german site. wanna take on the brits, go to the british site and so on. could be interesting.

edit: and as an after-thought...there's a whole new idea in there somewhere for a game. web site wars. national wars. with a little work...hmmm...i'll have to think on this one a bit.

K.

Although nice in concept, that would just kill online gaming. There is barely enough people online at any given time to play with as is. This will just drastically kill the numbers you 'see' in your window. No names = no games.

That would suck.

Maybe the 'other' sites just need to register with a central CA server so that their addresses can be sync'd everywhere. So, you would NOT have to be on the 'german' server to play the 'germans'. GAH! That would just suck for all the folks that don't even realize the server is out there and available!

THe current system is fine. Easy. Reliability is your REAL complaint here...

I think Activision will simply make a server like EA did.

But hopefully they will have some good customer support, and will somehow entice people to play online.

If the truth be told, some people are scared of coming online to fight, because they think that the people already on there will be too good.

But still thats just the human mind at work.

Really guys, everything depends on how much sales M:TW will get. My feelings are that Medieval:TW will be hyped quite a lot (that's a good thing) and after the success of STW (which couldn't be hyped because it was 'expirimental' and a test of CA's qualities) I think MTW will sale a lot more than STW did.

And EA or not EA, bah - all the publishers are quite all the same; few sales = few support. But Activision will be good; just look at the amount of hype Return to Castle Wolfenstein had...

Vanya wonders just how 'bloody' and 'brutal' the Crusades piece of MTW will be.
