I think that you shouldn't be able to move them the turn you order them built.
I think that you shouldn't be able to move them the turn you order them built.
My thoughts exactly.
Castle costs - 1000 gold for each level. I'm thinking perhaps it should cost a bit more. Ideas?
Maybe you should raise the castle cost from 1,000 to 1,500 or 2,000?
Ya, I'm going to decide what to do before I view your turns (For resending in the first turn PMs, it won't be a problem). The problem is I'll still know what you did the turn before, but I'll try to do my best to not let extra knowledge influence my actions.
Does this mean ill have to resend my pm?

I think that you shouldn't be able to move them the turn you order them built.
This would mean one couldn't build units in newly founded cities.
Does this mean ill have to resend my pm?
Hmm. Don't just yet - but depending on what we decide regarding this, you may want to.

Caius - I know you've built two cities. If that's all you're doing this turn, then you don't need to send me a PM. If you want to upgrade any city or raise troops, you do have to send me a PM.

Ok, so we have to resend our first order's turns? Or second? I'm a tad confused.
Also, I was a tad confused when Caius changed his name to, uhhmm, well, I'm having issues spelling/pronouncing it, but you get the idea. It was like, where has this guy been? He's got all these posts and I've never seen him before. Theeeen, I finally figured it out.

Okay, we're moving along fine. I'm just waiting on one person (who knows who he is), and I think I can get the first turn report and PMs sent out tonight.
A Reminder:
In some replies, I've pointed out that one move or another (like hiring and moving soldiers) was not possible at this time, but said I'd be happy to, say, hire the same number of soldiers in your capital city. I said no reply was needed if that was alright.
No reply is needed, but this is a reminder in case you did want to change something.

Rise of
Civilizations
Thousands of years ago, man languished in small communities of farmers and hunter-gatherers. After time, however, that began to change. Mankind began to congregate into small towns and trade with far off lands.
Now, across the waters surrounding Italy, several towns grew into cities, led by charismatic men. Who would be a great leader, able to transform their one modest city into a great civilization, was yet to be seen.
The process had begun, as the small cities began to expand by increasing in size or founding new cities.

Rise of Civilizations
Chapter II: War Begins
It has not taken long for the civilizations across the world to begin fighting with each other. War has broken out in central Italy, as an army from the nation of Umbria has attacked the capital of the smaller nation of Etruscan. The small force hired by the ruler of Etruscan is quickly routed by the Umbrian army, and the handful of men remaining flee to the just constructed Etruscan castle to the south. They have paid the price for poor leadership. The nation of Etruscan is finished, though its ruler may yet survive.
The Umbrians occupy the city and loot the coffers of the fleeing ruler.
In the south of Italy, a great army from Epeiros marches straight at the Roman city of Capua. Such an army has never been seen before in the world.
In other parts of the world, peace still maintains a tenuous grasp, as cities and castles are constructed. Whether the conflict that has gripped Italy will spread is yet to be seen.

Chapter III: War Continues
War has spread across much of the known world. In the North, Venetians have attacked and taken a city of the Guals. In Central Italy, the leader of the Etruscans has been killed. In the south, a great force assaulted a great Roman defending force at Capua, and was repulsed. Many thousands perished.
In the west, the Sardinians attack the people of Kender, and are also repulsed in their attempt to seize a city. Throughout the world, money changes hands between nations and armies are raised.

Rise of Civilizations
Chapter IV: War Spreads
War and its accompanying destruction has now spread to more parts of the world. In the north, the Venetian army continues its campaign against the Gauls. The Gauls live yet, though, and prepare for war.
In central Italy, all the nations are at war. Epeiros has attacked the Umbrian city of Spello. The Epeiran army, greatly bloodied after assaulting Capua, decides to head for the city of Spello. Spello's leader, wary of being so near Epeiros, had anticipated this and raised an army, so that the city was well defended when the army from Epeiros approached. The two armies clashed and fought bitterly, but in the end the Umbrians were rousted from their city.
As the Umbrian defenders fled north, they could see the city of Spello being sacked.
In the west, the forces of Sardinia again assault the city of Caleim, and are again repulsed. A tiny force of Sardinia approached the capital of Kendermoore in the north, shouting slogans and vowing to free the people of Kender. They were cut down and annihilated by Kendish defenders before they had a chance to run away.
The process of city building and the raising of armies continues throughout the world. On the island of Sicily, the king of Syracuse directed men to found a new city. However, noone knew where to build it, so the pioneers wandered around the island, many being devoured by the carnivorous rabbits of the area, and no city was built.

Turn Five has begun. Your Orders are due by Friday.
IMPORTANT: Sieges to siege a city, you must specify so in a PM when an army reaches a city. You will not assault the city, but instead you will lay siege. The benefit is that if your army assaults the city next turn and is repulsed, the defenders will still be under siege and can't hire more troops. The drawback is you can't attack immediately, and so nearby armies can attack you. Cities can resist a siege for (their city level + 1) turns (so, lvl four holds out for 5 turns), before starvation hits and defenders must either attack or begin to quickly die out.

Chapter V: Conflict Continues
War has become a way of life in some parts of the world. On the island of Corsica, residents of Caleim have grown accustomed to daily raids and frequent battles. Life is going to become more difficult, as the forces of Sardinia have laid siege to the city, and an attempt by a Kendish army to dislodge them has failed.
In central Italy, Umbrian forces have laid siege to their former town of Spello in an attempt to regain it.
The forces of Rome have attacked the new Epeirote town of Hippokoinarion, and were repulsed.
Peace has come to the north, as the Gallic forces were escorted south and a new town was founded. In some parts of the world, cities were still being built.

Chapter VI: Armies Gather
The tragedy of war continues without end in the western islands and central Italy. Yet despite the toll constant warfare has taken, great armies are still mustered and marched.
In Italy, Epeirote forces repel the besiegers of Spello, only to be later attacked by a great Umbrian army which took the city. Bloody and brutal fighting took place on the walls and then the very streets of the city. Even as they regained the city, though, the Umbrian soldiers sacked it.
The Roman force that had attacked Hippokoinarion retreated back to Capua. Another, small, Umbrian force attacking Hippokoinarion was destroyed by the Epirote garrison.
In the western isles, the forces of Kender sally forth and finally defeat the invading armies of Sardinia.
South of that battle, a Carthaginian fleet sails north.

Chapter VII: Turning Tides
War continues to be waged by the long time belligerents in the West and Central Italy. The tide of battle in both places is turning, however.
In the west, the forces of Kender land on Sardinia and assault the city of Tathari. The fighting is fierce and brutal, but the attackers gain the upper hand and drive the defenders from the city, before sacking it. A small armada of Sardinia then attacks the transporting Kender fleet, but is driven back with ram and sail. The Carthaginian fleet continues it's northward journey.
In Italy, the combined forces of Rome and Umbria assault Hippokoinarion, and their arrows blacken the sky as death is rained down upon the hapless defenders. At the same time, an Eperiote army has taken and sacked the defenseless Circeii. To the south, a Roman Legion, greatest army the world has seen, marches straight at the Epeirote capital of Taras.
Across the fields of battle, refugees stream from the destroyed cities, weeping for their lost homes and dead relatives.

Chapter VIII: The Beginning of Total War
Epeiros has marked a new descent of humanity as its leader ordered the razing of Circeii so it would not fall into enemy hands. The army that had just captured it marched north to Norcia, but did not attack or lay siege.
Two great armies have laid siege to the capital of Epeiros, Taras, and combined form a force greater than ever before seen in the world.
The Kendish forces manage to hold Tathari against Carthaginian assault, as a great army offloads itself from an armada and attacks. Between the two isles, Sardinian fleets combine and finish off the Kendish armada, and are joined later by the aramada from Carthage.
Across the world, other nations make preparations for war, readying armies and armadas.
Near the end of the season, ominous clouds gather, darkening the skies above Corsica. Lightning kills many a peasant, and people huddle in fear. A great booming voice scolds the King of Kender for scorning the gods and demands all righteous people punish these transgressors!

Rise of Civilizations
Chapter IX: WORLD AT WAR
The whole world has erupted into war; nearly every nation is now at war.
In the west, the Venetians have sent a fleet with soldiers and settlers to found the city of Bastia northeast of Kender. Workers labor furiously on a great castle around the city, until the massive stone walls stand high above the seas. The leader of the Venetians said his soldiers had come to help the Kendish against Carthaginian aggression.
An armada of Sardinia approached from the south and began to blockade the port of Kender, but was sunk by the Venetian fleet that had come from Pisa.
The Carthaginian army sailed from Sardinia to Corsica, where it laid siege to Caleim. The Kendish army that had defended Tathari razed the city, slaughtering those who remained after its recent sacking, as the Carthaginians left, then marched south. An army from Karalis marched north and attacked the Kendish army, destroying them.
Much further south, an armada of Syracuse was attacked and sunk by a Carthaginian armada in the open seas. On Italy, the combined armies of Rome and Umbria captured and sacked Taras, their great forces overwhelming the city's defenders.
Even as their home was pillaged, the last Epeirote army sat outside the city of Norcia. The Umbrian garrison rushed out to attack, but the Epeirote army fought with great skill and luck. The archers drew back their bows and shade fell over the land as the arrows flew to their target. Again and again the massive contingent fired, decimating the Umbrian army. After the garrison had been destroyed, the Epeirotes attacked Norcia and sacked it.
To the east, the Umbrians launched a great sea borne attack against Illyria, taking and sacking two cities, while a third fleet sailed east. In one, Umbrian soldiers discovered the mythical Palace of Skittles, and while sacking the city inflicted great destruction upon the palace, taking the many bountiful bowls of skittles and tearing down the ornamental carvings.
In two places, Sicily and Norcia, thunder and lightning boomed from the sky, killing peasants and terrifying townsfolk, who cursed their rulers. A great booming voice demanded punishment of the Syracuse and Epeirotes for their scorn of the gods.

From the leader of Carthage: We would question the idea of "Carthaginian aggression". We were merely coming to the defense of our ally, to prevent them from being exterminated by the Kender. What were we to do, stain our honor and stand by while one who counted us a freind was being exterminated? Such is not the way of Carthage. We stand by our allies in times of need, rather than abandoning them.
Second of all, we were not initiators of conflict with Syracuse. By coming within range of our fleet and threatening our borders, they leave us with little choice but to make sure that they do not have the oppportunity to attack our cities. It was Syracuse, not Carthage, who waged needless war. We urge Syracuse to stop this charade and accept a ceasefire.

there are about 2500 infantry and missiles and 1500 cavalry. At Skittle there were 700 infantry and missiles, and 500 cavalry.
Oh fun

Is Carthage the only nation which finds it ironic that the Venetians, who brutally reduced the Gauls to a state of utter dependancy, completely unprovoked, now find other agressors to be punishable for attempting to expand their realms?
Is that another way of saying, 'No, I'm not leaving Corsica?'

The Gauls have the same number of cities as the Kender people you seek to destroy to enrich yourself. So no, I don't consider it ironic. Kender is my ally, Gaul was not.
Now, are you going to leave Corsica?

Interesting that Venice would so clearly defy the wishes of the Gods. Not long ago, the Gods clearly expressed their discontent with Kender. Me and my ally were merely attempting to honor the wishes of the Gods. I would be careful, if I were you, Venice, lest you too draw their wrath. Defying the Gods may result in divine retribution.
Additionally, you seem to fail to see the point I am making regarding Gaul. There was once a time when Gauls lived in their native regions, in their own capital. Yet you decided to crush them into subserviance, for no other reason than to increase your own power. And now you criticise other nations for doing the same thing. Please, Pot, stop calling the Kettle black.
Also, you will have my answer soon enough.
OOC-Yes, I realize the irony of the first paragraph.

pfah! Our only regret is that we did not sack all five of your coastal cities at the same time!
... and that we could not yet make little bloody splotches of your men on the map.
As for our aggression... well face it, you were probably already eyeing the smaller and embattled Umbrian territory as a colony. We mean no threat to the Venetians, but we cannot stand by idly while to the east an audience to the stage of Italy prepares to feast after the show... on the actors!
Ghost yearly: Fate is Crule edition
One but cannot help smiling at the irony of the Illyrian situation
Such a peaceful nation so economically advanced who had until now remained out of the devestating effects of war, then in one fell swoop the Umbrians take two of their city's thus throwing them into the now worldwide war.
Why should we pay heed to a vanquished man's words? Trust the words of the victor instead! :beam:

While the Umbrians want very much to have good relations with the world at large, we cannot rest the security of our nation, our mothers, daughters, and sisters, upon the mere feelings of foreign rulers.
This conflict was a matter of course. If we had not sailed our ships east over the horizon, many more things than just boats would have disappeared from our land soon enough. This is not a frivolous war, and all we ask is that it be decided only between the nations of Umbria and Illyria. On the other hand, Rome's hands are completely clean in this matter, and no retaliation should be sought against them by any party.

1. Our brothers and sons, down to nearly the last, are now in the military... fighting to protect the civilians that are left.
2. We meant that it was a matter of course in the widest scope. Illyria would have found some pretense to attack us in the future. It looks as if all the saltwater has affected the Venetians mind for symbolism as of late, we think.
3. This is a matter of security. We believe that the very survival of our population is at stake.

Message from Carthage:
After discussing the matter with our ally, we have detirmined that we will accept the offer of ceasefire with Kender and Venice. As per the agreement, we ask that Venice and Kender stay off of the Island of Sardinia. In return, we will not land forces on Corsica.

Note to Sardinia and Kender: be sure to include in your PMs that you wish to sign a ceasefire, so that the 4 turn period before you can expand you economies can begin.

Rise of Civilizations
Chapter X: Eye of the Maelstorm
For one brief instant, the world goes a season without battle. Yet even in this peace the coming violence is foreseeable, just over the very edge of an abyss.
The future is a great black storm which no one can see past.
In Illyria, the invading armies of Umbria march north, deep into the interior, bypassing Moronton. In central Italy and Umbrian army stops outside of Norcia, now owned by Syracuse.
Venetian armadas blockade the Umbrian port cities of Spoleto and Assisi.
The Carthaginian army departs Corsica in the west and lands on Sardinia.
In Sicily and Sardinia, lightning flails the peasants, as a great booming voice promises retribution.
The pieces have been placed into position, all that needs be done is for the die to be cast that furious battle may once again erupt.

The Venetians desire only peace. We could have sent thousands of soldiers south to sack your cities, but we did not, because we do not desire more violence. And also because we think Illyria is fully capable of kicking your butt.
If you wish to continue this war, it shall only mean defeat for you.
