I had a few qeustions about laying seige on castles.

I really haven't noticed or heard anything about battering rams being in MTW, perhaps they will be put in the game later but I just wanted to know whats up? Battering rams played a major role in most seiges, and many commanders really didnt want to destroy whole parts of a castle to gain entry, mainly becuase if and when they did take it, they would most likely use it for defense from a counter attack soon after, and most generals don't want a wall missing form their castle when the enemy arrives on the field. The battering ram was an easier and less costly way of getting in, and the damage was easier to repair quickly.

Also what role will moat's play in seiges? Will they have the abilty to be filled in by troops to be used for a corssing? Or will they be immobile areas on the map, ala STW.

Seige towers, anyone?

Good question, we did not hear a word about siege towers or battering rams, or at least i haven't read about this (included in the game or not). Anybody?

I think i will forward your question here, perhaps it will be answered at the FAQ they are building at the official game site.

i wouldnt count on a lot with the various siege engines. if you add battering rams then that means you need to add troops up on the battlements with boiling oil and arrows and so on and the game isnt really going that far because of the nature of how the units work. they arent putting troops up on the battlements, that i can see, so it's not likely that there'll be an offense to exploit that fact.

this ISNT going to be Stronghold meets shogun. the castle stuff isnt going to be nearly as complete as the stuff in Stronghold. you wont be able to do all the various castle defending tricks that you could do there. this is more like shogun meets europa universalis. i think about all you're going to get is the defensive towers and gates that open and close, thus, it wouldnt be fair to give the attackers all the various siege engines and tools that were used in Stronghold because the defenders wouldnt be able to defend against them properly.

Actually, I read somewhere in a preview (IGN or Gamespot I think) that towers would have arrows/archers and muskets/gunners for defense. Weather or not you have to garrison units in them or they would be their by default, I'm not sure.

i think you might be able to buy the units for the defense of the castle without actually being able to take them outside. you will get defensive platforms on which to put anti siege weapons i think i read
