Well....

This evening I saw one of the best user made TW movies ever on YouTube, thanks to Lord Comnenus who posted this link at TWC.

So here it is:

YouTube video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zs5aDpjq0nM) by Sin329 (https://www.youtube.com/user/sin329)

(blue are links).

Stunning camera angles, pro-extreme close up, VERY well filmed.
What do you all think ?

Kobal2fr
05-17-2007, 04:36
Hmmm...Sin329... playing the Turks...could it be SINan ?! :laugh4:

(just kidding, mate. Besides, I wouldn't mind either way, and if it IS you, well it's an outstanding movie so be proud)

I love the sun-fireball thing. Wonder how he did it. I also like the close-up DFK, you can almost hear him buckle up and say "well, that was a horrible, horrible mistake. *sigh* Well, MEN, IT'S ONCE AGAIN UP TO US !"

Shahed
05-17-2007, 04:48
HAHA !

He's an impostor ! No honest it was'nt me.. someone HAS to make a movie about LE FRENCH !! That's gonna be me ! :D
The naptha, the retreat into the stakes. Amazing talent.

The sun effect is a still, then he releases the clip on the still, it merges, and you get that shot.

Fantastic use of angles, an amazing display of the small quirks and detail in the animation in the engine, like the celebrating.
I wonder how he got the knights to charge the stakes, AND the spear to retreat just before them, both things the AI would never do..

I often sit back after a really great battle, and wish i had been able to enjoy the show more, rather than panically order my units around.
I guess that's the curse of the general, the men gets all the fun.. :)

Shahed
05-17-2007, 06:57
Could be he was on LAN/Internet with someone. But I don't think so. He made a few replays, pathed the camera, set favorite angles, filmed it, cropped and minor edits, and posted.

It is hard to get the knights to charge AND pull back as perfectly as he did. I'd like to watch the show too, hence why I've opened a replay test thread. If the replays work for everyone as then we may finally be able to watch the show for a change.

BTW there's some decent Armed Assault videos there on his page as well.

Very well done, though neither of the two factions are my favorite.

Absolutely brilliant! I would have enjoyed a bit more of the infantry melee, but I suppose the exiting scene with the burning knight is about as dramatic as things can get.

Daveybaby
05-17-2007, 10:19
That is indeed very good. Would love to see a version without the horrible youtube compression.

I would have enjoyed a bit more of the infantry meleeI'm guessing that's to come in part 2

I think he did'nt do the melee because (LOL) it would have been really hard to get the same quality of shots. Just a guess. Indeed he might do a part 2 with it so he's got time to set it up.

Would love to see a version without the horrible youtube compression.

Good idea ! I'm going to post him a request.

Pleasure, Ichigo.

Here's another.
It's pretty good I think, though that Papal States vs Turks movie has set a new standard. That standard will be hard to meet.
In this movie you can tell that good animation shots are elusive, because the animations keep snapping.

The ending is GREAT !

Yeah, please post some more, sir!
It's quite odd in the second video that the guy sees any historical ties between TKs and 1942.:dizzy2:

Yeah, please post some more, sir!
It's quite odd in the second video that the guy sees any historical ties between TKs and 1942.:dizzy2:

Why ? Stalin certainly commissioned a LOT of movies linking his "Great Patriotic War" and Russia's victory against the Drang Nach Osten, to emphasize two points : that the Germans were bad bad meanies, and that they could be beaten by plucky Russian peasants.

I'm not really fond of the movie though. Too slow-paced, little to no editing work, a LOT of close-ups meant to be stylish but with the fighters clearly not hitting each other...

Flavius Merobaudes
05-18-2007, 20:19
Some more fans of old Sergei Eisenstein propaganda movies here?:laugh4:
I remember the Teutonic Knights in "Alexander Newski". They came right from hell... Too bad Stalin came from hell, too. :skull:

Kobal2fr
05-18-2007, 20:24
Yeah, Nevsky is frickin' great... if a bit heavy-handed at times. I mean, throwing babies in the fire ? Might as well write "Germans are bad, m'kay ?" on a sledgehammer and hit the audience with it :laugh4:

Oui. J'ai la meme opinion. Mais les Francais, ils sont les plus mauvais dans tous circonstances. Simplement terrible, ces gens! Et la langue...:dizzy2:
Well, I guess my French is too bad. So I must stop mocking you.

A friend of mine once phrased our feelings on patriotism thus : "Les gens ne sont fiers d'où ils sont nés que quand ils n'ont vraiment rien d'autre." (people only take pride in where they were born when they don't have anything else to be proud of). So don't worry, no offense taken :laugh4:

Great Video. One bad thing is the archers not pulling back the string on the bow :( I wish that would get fixed!

Yeah but there is incredible detail anyway but I agree would be nice to see everything, the arrow, string and all.

That man has talent. That swordfight in the end is a thing of beauty, and extra points as well for Hot Ribault Action

Shahed
05-30-2007, 12:57
Yeah, not to mention the shots of the musketeers, aiming and firing from up close. Makes every man look individual. I like the Xbow shot on the JHI as well. All of them are very detailed, very precise. I like the way the JHI & Hashis are just walking up to the Ribault but I would have liked to see more impact damage in that shot. Brilliant movie.

I have to agree, Sin329's videos are very impressive.

EDIT: Wow. After watching one of his Armed Assault videos, I have to say the above is an understatement. These are simply brilliant. I'll have to watch them all at some point.

Shahed
05-30-2007, 20:35
Yeap... he's not even started doing videos for M2 yet, apparently.
That's what you'd guess once you see the ARMA videos, the M2 videos he's done look like tests or fooling around in comparison.

This one is defintely worth mention. Be patient and there are some cool shots in this one:

Wow, the archers in thsi video must have got a lot of kills.

Flavius Merobaudes
06-03-2007, 13:15
What a massacre!
No, really great shooting. The archers as well as the camera.

BTW, could anyone identify the language of the music. Their are some Latin parts in there, but on the other hand it seems to be French at least in some parts.

Edit: One more example for the importance to keep the high ground.

Shahed
06-03-2007, 14:00
Yeah it definetly had a major tragedy theme to it.

..the "scary, creepy soundtrack"....the second one?
thats in "old-french" ...messieurs. somewehre in time after the gallo-roman period and before the "paris-dialect" starts to dominate the language...
the intro and the last one (violine-theme) calls "agincourt", but unfortunately the interpret is unknown.

Kobal2fr
06-04-2007, 18:51
Not to derail or hijack the thread and turn it into a discussion on semantics, but there's no such thing as "old French", or at least not in the sense that there is an "old English".

Medieval France was in fact torn apart by this problem : we were one country with two (well, three with Latin) languages, the langue d'oc and the langue d'oïl.
Langue d'oc was spoken in the southern regions, and consisted in a mix of pig latin, proto-Italian, proto-Spanish etc..., with lots of hard consonnants and vowels. Occitan is the modern dialect derived from it (if you want to hear some, I know the dub band Massilia Sound System has some tracks in occitan, and the Fabulous Trobadors as well).
Langue d'oïl was also based on latin, but with influences from the northern germanic, celtic, gaellic and scandinavian languages, and spawned the various diphtongues and nasal sounds which to this day make non-native French speakers identifiable in 2 seconds because no Englishman can come up with a decent "on" to save his life :}.

Speakers of both languages of course considered themselves to be speaking "real French" when the other guys were uncouth idiots ; and when the langue d'oïl was adopted in official documents because it was the one spoken in Paris, it caused an uproar, revolts and even threatened to turn into a full blown civil war - supporters of the langue d'oc eventually calmed down but still refused to give up their language and insisted their children learn both. To this day, occitan is still considered a "rebel language" in the south of France, and learning it has become an anti-centralist statement, kinda like learning Welsh in England I suppose.

Shahed
06-04-2007, 19:04
Thanks Kobavelli that's very informative. So in the video it's langue d'oil ?
I like the music though, whatever the language is.

If you know what French they are speaking in the video you might want to inform Vingetorix (the guy who made the statement and the movie). You can find him at the .com.

was brilliant, but i found the ending lacking, should have been a pan to the defeated army or something. kinda just ended too abruptly

but still, great friggin movie

Kobal2fr
06-04-2007, 19:08
Nah, what with the bagpipes, the unitone, and the fact that it's a chorus, I can't grasp a word of what is said, let alone what language it is. At first I thought it was Breton (another French dialect... we have lots of those :laugh4:) but there are no Breton tracks on the artists' website so... your guess is as good as mine :sweatdrop:.

Callahan9119
06-05-2007, 08:55
that movie with the archers should have been 1/3 the length, i wanted to stab myself in the face after seeing the same shot over and over of the dfk walking and the pikes squatting on the hill, and the pan of the castle. after the 20th one i'd have assumed he knew we knew there was a castle there :director:

and I am really sorry about my mistake....
"langue d`oil" of corse...i had translatetd directly (and wrong) from my language...its a double shame, cause the western part of our country speaks french too...I for myself had to learn that in "ancient" scooltimes..:book:
Anyway, nice to see, people are watching my "movie"..

Yes it cut be shorter...but it was just a "try out" with the Cine-ed....so i get a 8.5 minutes-flight...and it tells a story...the reason why i dont wanted to put it in the trash... "spiked" it up with standing-scenes, and thats now the result...almost 13 minutes...
even the battle was just to test the patch 1.2...it was never thoght to be a movie....but it grown so.....:laugh4:

Awesome stuff!

Anyone see the end of part 3? I think the creator of those films is trying to tell CA something there lol!

Has anyone got some definitive guides for me in regard to this thread; ( because I really want to make some films of my own, and just don't have time to try and work out everything across the net to do with the process unfortunately...) :

Anyway thanks for posting Sinan, I'm off to keep reworking my 'Ultimate Total War' post before bed.

Edit: I found this one last week I think it is an original promotion video, the music is pretty cool except for certain lyrics for me. Anyway it just flows very nicely!

very nice videos

I'll download some of the 'full size' versions, as usual youtube's compression often makes video's quality seriously crap (even though it's fast to load, etc)

although that being said I've had many problems with youtube the last few months with firefox, most of the time it's extremely slow and won't load, so I have to use AOL's browser (and even then it doesn't always work(

Once again I have to drag this thread up, as I´ve just discovered that Sin239 has outdone himself once again with his rendition of the battle of Ravenna.

An absolutely great depiction of a classical rennaisance era battle with an astoundishing use of the Gettysburg movie soundtrack. An absolute must-have (which, thankfully, is possible due to a filefront link kindly provided by Sin) for any fan of M2TW movies.

I'd highly recommend going to that link and downloading the full resolution versions, despite the fact that they're huge files. They're very immersive when they're taking up a large part of your screen.

Someone scripted these out completely. They play like what I had hoped Time Commanders would have looked like in many places. I'm still working on downloading Ravenna, but looking forward to seeing that one full resolution!

BTW that movie is by another guy, ploer... forgot the rest of his nick.

IMO Sin329 does'nt like Turks or something, he's probably Japanese or so the legend goes. I think he just tries a different take on movies since everyone can do Euro faction movies. IMO he's just doing something different, showing another perspective. He's done a great job, he's also produced movies from other games.
