let initiative in turns be decided by money invested, like in teh old samurai swords board game.
if u do this u can use it as well for multiplay uses.

Another thing from the board game- you could hire ronin for a turn (at LARGE cost) in a poker kind of way, concealing which province they were in- option to hire experienced but fickle mercenaries would be good- as long as it didn't result in unique troop types being passed around of course- mercenary regiments would have to be unique in and of themselves.

The board game was actually called Shogun in Australia http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
Pretty cool board game. I would rate it as my favourite.

Yup, the old vers. was Shogun, then they had to change the name due to some copyright issues (i think), and they went to the hokey samurai swords. But, that game rocked and still does...its obvious that STW campaign mode was premised on the board game, and your suggestions are great. I too especially like the way ronin are a one shot deal, and very risky to use on defense because if the enemy doesnt attack that turn the ronin wander off. Ask Machiavelli how "dependable" mercenaries were....

Thats why Ronin are good in attack... but the opponents don't have to do much guessing when they see 10 Ronins on one card http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

if not turnbased at least let human players reinforce like ai players do.. keep everything the same except: when a battle occurs in a neighboring province give the human player a chance to move adjacent armies, to aid in the defense or in support of an attack, into the province. No more, No less than the option givin to the ai army.

I disagree, AI doesn't predict an attack unless he got spies in your territory, and a lot of them too. Coutering them with shinobi seeems to do the trick, and if you send out several spies in AI province then
you get messages when an enemy army is going to attck you, so you can get your reinforcements in.

If the developers allow us to field broken down units than it would be interesting to programm the turnbased samurai game into an european version.
I know our Empires programmers can do it but why spent time on uncertain things, a liitle more communication can bring a lot as well..
Turn based... please make it turn based.
What I really want is a smarter AI on the strategic map AS WELL as the tactical one. The way it is now, the ronins around Oda's land (Yamashiro-Ise-Bizen) seems smarter then Clans.
