Please do not laugh at this question.
Can I unlock other factions by winning with an unlocked faction.

In order to unlock a faction the legal way, you must defeat that faction in campaign mode with a rival faction.

This is easy to do once you build a massive empire with your favorite faction... just go for the enemy's throat and slay them by force, ignoring your own casualties.

The legal way opens all the playable factions once you complete a grand campaign. So play a short campaign and quickly achieve your victory conditions, so you can then start a long one as your faction of choice.

Go into your Medieval total war folder go to data/world/campaign/imperial and select descr.strat text file. Change the unlockable lines to playable.

This page has good intructions with visuals. https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=72055

That's the extra-special hard way! It's the only way to play the Aztecs, etc., but just for the unlockable factions, there's a much easier way.

Go to your medieval2.preference.cfg and add these lines somewhere:

[misc]
unlock_campaign = true

The next time you start the game, all factions will be unlocked and the added lines will magically disappear from your CFG.
