Kinda like a poll...

For a real trouncing of just about anybody that dare stands in your way, who would you use?

Eggys: early
Mongols: Late
Byz: Early
Eggys: Mid

I ask this since playing the XL Mod, I figured on playing the Mongols just for kicks to see what I'd be facing with my early games...

I sit for like 5 or 6 turns, have like 4 provs build up, and strike out with say 1 fresh stack and maybe 2 vet stacks and stomp on a faction like the Hungarians, or Poles...

and with 5-star generals, Korean Guards, Mongol Hvy Cav, Handgunners, etc.. it gets ugly, so for 1355 (Late period) I will be facing the Venetians/HRE in Europe as I have secured Palastine and about to enter Eggyland in the Mid-east, About to take Constantinople to finish off the Byz.

I know I'm slow..:P

But man, the Mongols kick serious butt!

Early: Danes, Eggies, & Byz

The Danes have simply awesome infantry in the Early period. Their only real disadvantage is against factions (*cough* Turks *cough*) that employ large amounts of missile cavalry.

The Egyptians have pretty decent units, and very rich lands that can support substantial armies.

The Byz also have good lands (if not quite as rich as the Eggies). In addition, they have outstanding units in Early -- Katanks, BI, Varangians, etc.

High: English

They get Billmen and Longbows (with valour bonuses in Mercia & Wales, respectively). 'Nuff said!

Late: Spanish

Good lands, the usual Late Catholic unit roster, plus they get Lancers. (Not to mention which, the Caliphate's units are severaly outdated and obselete by then.)

The Mongols have to fight around 5 different factions with little buildings and troops to start with, so I find them fairly hard.

At Easy on Vanilla, the HRE are a cakewalk and I can safely say that on the battlefield by Byzantines are invincible in defense, even though when attacking tactically they aren't the easiest.

Early/Expert-The Turks are my choice as easiest. If you use Katank’s blitz strategy, the rich provinces of Egypt and Byzantium are quickly yours (say, 1120).
The Danes are the safest. If you stay allied with whoever has Saxony (until you can take it), then you are good to go. I usually take Novgorod and Muscovy as early as possible. That way I can make Steppe Heavy Cav in Muscovy. Now the Danes have their own HA, and are even easier to play.

I am not sure the Turks are the easiest. 2 powerful neighbors, low acumen generals, and low loyalty generals. But there is potential.

I have always found the Spanish to be the easiest. Nearby rebel provinces for quick expansion, choke points, easy access to the Atlantic and the Med, several iron yielding provinces within striking distance, Aragon is not a strong neighbor. Once you knock the Almos off the Iberian you have 2 great options. Follow them into North Africa and take the gold mines or take advantage of the French/English wars to take Europe.

Almost forgot about Jinettes. Love those!!!
