I kind of laughed last night because I was reading the Qur'an, and it mentioned "Sabeans" (yes, spelled that way), with an asterisk by it. At the bottom of the page, it described the story of these people, and then said "There was also a people called the Sabaeans who originated from southern Arabia..." and I thought to myself, "Hey, I know them!".

Then it occurred to me; who would have thought that I would learn about a [comparitively] obscure ancient civilization from southern Arabia from a video game?

Kind of neat if you ask me. Just goes to show how educational this mod is.

This is how I sell EB to other people, by telling them of it's detailed immersive history. I sometimes don't know if I'm playing a game or reading a book.

I have learnt more from EB than from my history teacher at school. It also got me very interested in history in general and now I am working towards doing it at University.

Yeah, EB is what got me really interested in (ancient) history, and in the end caused me to study history at uni.

Try turning a page and you'll know. :laugh4:

Dito!:laugh4: Before this mod I never really liked history but now, after knowing some facts and even some by heart, I'm really interested in history, especially Hellenistic.

EB is t3h 1337!

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested in history before EB, but EB gives a completely unique (in my opinion) view and immersion into an ancient world.

To all of you studying ancient history: Please, please don't get into this thinking it's just cool. If you're serious about your interest, start mastering Latin and Greek, and plan on going to graduate school, and eventually getting your doctorate. To be blunt, an undergraduate degree in history, by itself, is worthless and expensive. Don't learn this the hard way ;) If you don't go to grad school, plan on law school.

I second that. History degrees aren't worth much, nor are classics ones themselves. Do this stuff for fun, on the side. If you are really really really good, then pursue it, and pursue it somewhere really good too, but you've gotta be ready for what comes.

And I can emphasise that. Much as I love ancient history, after my first year it's become absolutely clear to me that to choose that course you must be dedicated and be willing to scholarly work. Hence I choose a different specialisation.

Of course it is. Everything needs work. History more than some other things as it's a very dificult branch to have success. You must really work a lot. and a simple degree wont cut it. Well, it's like Astronomy. If you really want it, prepare to spend the rest of your life studying.

Cheers...
