I would tell you, but it hasn't been revealed yet.:balloon2:

After that unit it is probably the Hetairoi or Thraikioi Prodromoi, but some of those steppe factions have some pretty awesome units.

I avoid using rare uber units, so I vote for Prodromoi (successor medium cavalry), my favorite pursuit&stab_in_the_back cavalry:

1. awesome stats for 3d level cavalry;
2. great stamina;
3. fantastic speed;
4. weird hats;
5. really wide AOR (even Tarentum is included).

As for Hetairoi or Kataphraktoi: two units of Prodromoi smash them on consecutive charge, all you have to do is strike first =)

Agreed, Prodromoi are awesome.
The Illyrioi Hippeis aren't very durable, but have a good enough charge and for cavalry they're pretty cheap.
Leuce Epos (and Curepos) I use zealously whereever I can find them.

I'm a sucker for light cavalry :balloon2:

I love Illyrioi Hippeis. Light cavalry with very good paunch.
And ofcourse Thessalian cavalry is great ( Hippeis Thessalikoi ).
Hippeis Tarantinoi are very interesting cavalry but I didnt used them often enough to decide if they are really that great.

My personal favorite is the Sabaean Medium Cavalry. They are fast, have good stamina, good charge and a secondary melee weapon with a 0.225 lethality. They eat AI Hetairoi for breakfast. Plus they have a cloth covering their face so they look like bandits.
And while some factions have better armored heavy cavalry, they first have to catch up with them. And all that armor is so tiring...

Simply Grinpanvar. They are immune to arrows and have a devastating charge. High armor value makes them holy-shielded, hard to kill so they can raise their experience faster than any other units.
I like Prodromoi too due to their speed and flexibility.

Well, I prefer Hippeis Tarantinoi as medium cavalry. For heavy cav, I lika the Parthian Catraphact archers. THey can skirmish around and deplete a lot of units and hav a devastating charge. Also, they're impervious to arrows :)

Cheers...

The Ala Imperatoria, rather well suited for close combat and skirmishing, but unfortunately it becomes only available after the imperial reforms so few people will ever see them in a campaign.

Thessalians, they're cheaper than Companions to train and maintain but their stats are almost the same. Beyond that Thrakian Prodromoi are great for covering your flanks while the real heavies smash the enemy against your phalanx.

The Ala Imperatoria are another fantastic unit but to be honest I'm a heavy cav general.

I dont know if they could really qualify for a separate unit but somatofilakes strategou are insispensable and they replenish themselves automatically

While maybe not my favorite, as I can't really say if I have a favorite yet or not, I like the Prodromoi. Very reliable medium cavalry, one time in particular I recall how a unit of them chewed through Pontos' Kappadokian Cavalry like they were nothing. Definately a good alternative to the Hetairoi if you're strapped for money.

Ambakaro Epones :yes:

I forget their exact name, but I prefer the galatian heavy cavalry found in Ankyra...they make a nice all-round unit that can fight well in melee and is a good flank-guard for my makedonian phalanxes.

Roxolani Nobles, bwahahhahahrrr! Hammers with ranged weapons... I was seldom rich enough to maintain more than two of them on the battlefield. Roxolani Nobles as hammers, Mercenary medium greek phallanx as anvil. Ka-booom. Routing thorakitai and chaonian agemas everywhere.

Hippeis Tarantinoi look pretty. :) Does anyone know if I as a Roman can recruit them? It's not looking like it so far, even with a government IV.

Though my vote goes to Hippeis Thessalikoi. Lowest MIC availability and heaviest hitting power for cost and stats. And they look good too, the most heavily armoured medium MIC cavalry, I think.
