This is reaaly getting on my nerves.

I just spent 3/4 of an hour beating the pants off a vastly superior Seleukid army and was just finishing off the last 2 units. CTD !!!!!!!!!!!

Why is it that the :furious3: game has to crash just as I am about to win the battle after putting in not a small amount of effort? My equipment is turning colour from all the profanities hurled at it.

The CTD is not consistent enough to be predictable, except that it usually rears its ugly head at the end of a battle and as I am about to win. Stressing about to. I don't seem to get a chance to actually win. I am certain that after I spend 5-10 minutes loading up the game and getting back to where I was just before I attacked the Seleukids, the battle will go just fine.

Would a save file be of use?

When stuff like that happens, I usually just say "Screw it", and auto_win attacker/defender to get around the battle.

Doesn't sound like a savegame worth checking out. CTDs during battles are not something we have any control over, AFAIK. You could run memtest some night to see if some part of your memory chips is screwed, or check the temperature of your hardware perhaps.

Is it a bridge battle? Those tend to have more problems than others.

No, not a bridge battle. It happens anywhere. I am going to reduce graphics settings even more. They are quite low already. The game is overall much more stable after 0.81a, though.

... and let me interject that the EB mod is definitely a 10 out of 10.

Oh, and auto-win battle would still not generate the same casualty ratios that I am currently enjoying, I believe.

"I'll bet somewhat a historical casulatie ratios though..."

Well......yes. Probably.

With auto_win they usually are around 10-20%, I think. More than you would take if you fight manually but still bearable.

Yeah, but auto_win doesn't give your army the care you would. Suppose you're playing Marian Rome, with nine cohorts and a first cohort (with Cunctator's mod). Play a battle and a house rule should be never to lose the First Cohort. The auto_win doesn't care about that. Or, suppose your General is a valiant, brave man, known to charge into the fray, like a madman screaming "Death! Death! Death!"... (okay, enough of RotK for me)
Anyway, take that example. auto_win uses, of course, will not respect that, and let your General sit around watching his troops win.
auto_win is handy, but if it was THE important battle it CTD'd in, then I'd play it again. Just for role-playing's sake.
