Can anyone give a few simple tips on how to improve your generals command rating. In RTW it was fairly straight forward win battles and collect/swap ancillaries. I have tried to get similar results in M2TW but without any great success. My best was a german king who started life as a 4* and did two crusades and died as a 8* having fought all his life. However the drawback was everyone else ticked over at the 2-4 mark, with noone really excelling. I notice that when the Mongrels arrive you are faced with what a dozen or so starred out generals and I would like to give them some opposition. There must be some easy win/win tricks. I have read someone that some good traits can be aquired by fighting but if you go to far you end up with the opposite. I am about to strat on 1.02 and have amended the VnV file using Faction Heirs slight mod.

Thanks

Well, there isn't much to do other than fight some battles. Remember though, if your army is more than twice the strength of the other army, you wont get many traits.

Having the general shed some blood himself helps. If your general performs a couple of good charges and he gets a good headcount, he will be more respected by his men.

It´s not just having full Command rating.... It´s also morale and situations, you don´t need to get your general more than 8, then you get Night Fighter and with enough night fighting you get Night owl or Likes Dark (total +2 on nights) and also attacking / defending. If born with 1-2* it will be unbelivibly hard to get it full, specially if you want truly chivalrious general (Fine With Blood and such give +dread) and get generals to town until they start to drink a bit or hope they start with Sober or Abhors Drink (at one point almost every family member of mine was Sober...) kills morale but give command and personal security.
